General EV Conversation
But IMO being shocked about resale of EVs doesn’t make sense. We know resale is terrible. That’s mitigated by leasing.
the mercedes i showed was what was being 'asked' for it... no doubt it sold for less than that too, so the difference probably wasn't very significant at all.
so bayeaux's posted straw man (100k new right? and an auction not even finished) and your negativity as to what "we" know, are what "we" expect.

yes, did a quick search and it says that adventure trim r1t was $73k new. if someone got a 7500 tax credit then they really only paid $65.5k.
the auction closed at $47k so that's 72% of original cost. which isn't 'terrible'.

i know people who bought them in recent years and didn't keep them long. the 'reality' of owning it was not like they imagined... noisy, rough ride, not that useful compare to many other trucks. but yeah, it's reliable.

I’m sorry I jumped the gun. There was 20 min left on the auction in which the price increased by $4k.
Seem like the new owner got a good deal.
Leave me the Targa 4s for boring folks like myself, and throw in a new Taco TRD with its turbo spool snorkel piped directly into the cabin!
As a toy hauler to keep in a vacation home these are super ideal.

Being happy with what’s available you can afford is an important thing in life.
Gotta pay to play! lol

Im not being negative, but EVs tend to have considerably lower resale than ICEs, that’s just a fact. Comparing it to an S Class doesn’t make much sense since as you described it’s a much more expensive car for one. Compare an S Class to an EQS, the EQS has much greater depreciation (highest in the industry, actually). The low resale value of my car is a reason why I lease. Low resale value of EVs is why I personally would only lease them.
Remember almost certainly both my next cars will be EVs. I’m not making an anti EV argument.

I don’t disagree, but they also are very much loved by people who own them and they have some of the highest resale of any vehicle, there’s a reason for that. A buyer has to want one for the right reasons. Have you driven one? They’re fun. Not anything I would want as a primary vehicle but I would buy one as a bang around truck for sure.

no, haven’t driven one… i typically only drive something i have some interest in.
the nostalgia and reliability rep is strong.

4Runner is the same way. It’s trucky and blocky and old school, they look great modified up into a cool
rig. Lots of fun.
Honestly in the EV world Rivians kind of have a similar appeal.

New Toyota's on the other hand, Ambien on steroids. No thanks. If I ever picked up another Toyota/Lexus product, it would be a 10th gen IS350, 2010 and on ISF, or IS500
