At the beach and across the highway from the condo we always rent is a level 2 charger waiting for our EV!

Got to pay to play. Plus from what I've gathered here, a used Rivian is pretty cheap

I’ve been seeing more and more Silverado EVs. I think they are close to $100k especially the nicer trim models. I admit they are nice

Although to be fair the R1T in 2022 wasn’t $100k. That’s probably a $72k truck.
yes, did a quick search and it says that adventure trim r1t was $73k new. if someone got a 7500 tax credit then they really only paid $65.5k.

But IMO being shocked about resale of EVs doesn’t make sense. We know resale is terrible. That’s mitigated by leasing.
the auction closed at $47k so that's 72% of original cost. which isn't 'terrible'.

the mercedes i showed was what was being 'asked' for it... no doubt it sold for less than that too, so the difference probably wasn't very significant at all.

so bayeaux's posted straw man (100k new right? and an auction not even finished) and your negativity as to what "we" know, are what "we" expect.

i know people who bought them in recent years and didn't keep them long. the 'reality' of owning it was not like they imagined... noisy, rough ride, not that useful compare to many other trucks. but yeah, it's reliable.

Yep. I wouldn't have an issue picking up a 3 year old Silverado, I believe they have 120k warranty on battery and drivetrain

I’m sorry I jumped the gun. There was 20 min left on the auction in which the price increased by $4k.

Seem like the new owner got a good deal.

You are already are beating 911s at every stop light, why would you need a 911?

Leave me the Targa 4s for boring folks like myself, and throw in a new Taco TRD with its turbo spool snorkel piped directly into the cabin!

Hertz rental sales is offloading a ton of those, with the fleet level trims. Dont know how they were used, but warranty right?

As a toy hauler to keep in a vacation home these are super ideal.

Cant compare used to new. Not everyone can “pay to play”. The point is the Tacoma is a really fun package at its price point and they hold their value incredibly well for that reason. Take my cousin, his dream vehicle is a Tacoma but he can’t afford one. He will never be able to buy a $100k car, his house was $130k and I had to help him buy that. He’ll have his Tacoma one day though.

Being happy with what’s available you can afford is an important thing in life.

Agreed it sold for a lot surprisingly.

Im not being negative, but EVs tend to have considerably lower resale than ICEs, that’s just a fact. Comparing it to an S Class doesn’t make much sense since as you described it’s a much more expensive car for one. Compare an S Class to an EQS, the EQS has much greater depreciation (highest in the industry, actually). The low resale value of my car is a reason why I lease. Low resale value of EVs is why I personally would only lease them.

Remember almost certainly both my next cars will be EVs. I’m not making an anti EV argument.

I don’t disagree, but they also are very much loved by people who own them and they have some of the highest resale of any vehicle, there’s a reason for that. A buyer has to want one for the right reasons. Have you driven one? They’re fun. Not anything I would want as a primary vehicle but I would buy one as a bang around truck for sure.

eqs resale stinks because it just wasn’t popular at all new, not just because it’s an ev.

agreed unless i find an ev i know i want to keep a long time or i buy used.

the nostalgia and reliability rep is strong.
no, haven’t driven one… i typically only drive something i have some interest in.

But by and large EVs definitely have lower resale than ICEs. Just look at Teslas, some of the lowest brand aggregate resale in the industry and they are very popular new. The used market just doesn’t quite have confidence in them yet.

They’re fun. It’s kind of like a Jeep Wrangler. People who buy them and love them actually like the rough, bang around feel of them. It’s not just about reliability either, huge enthusiast following for them, tons of aftermarket support. They’re just fun. Way more fun than like a Ranger or Colorado or something like that.

4Runner is the same way. It’s trucky and blocky and old school, they look great modified up into a cool
rig. Lots of fun.

Honestly in the EV world Rivians kind of have a similar appeal.

911 is still awesome 👍. My coworker has a Boxster with the 3.2L, slow but still fun to drive. 911 also isn't exactly slow, depending on the spec. So I'll take 911 boring any day

New Toyota's on the other hand, Ambien on steroids. No thanks. If I ever picked up another Toyota/Lexus product, it would be a 10th gen IS350, 2010 and on ISF, or IS500
