Looks like Waymo can't handle power outages

I asked Grok about this, Waymo defaults to a fail safe mode when edge cases are detected. In this case it literally stops in the middle of the road and waits for human intervention. The trigger was no traffic signals not lack of connectivity, although that also may contribute in some scenarios. Hard to argue with stats, Waymo is much safer than the average driver but where the cars drive is carefully curated. I would be beyond pissed if my taxi stopped in the middle of the road and I couldn't get out of the car. Sitting duck.

FSD will just keep driving until the destination was reached.

I wonder how it would handle an inoperable stop light?

who said anything about not being to get out of the car...? I haven't read anything about people get stuck inside the Waymo.
It was an interesting night in the city, and people are still out of power almost 24 hours later

There are numerous accounts of this happening, a simple "woman trapped in waymo" search will show you.

Treats it as a 4-way stop.

Well, at least Tesla is not in the news. Usually when it is, it's not good

I assume Waymos are getting improved just like FSD is... so quite likely any future outages will not affect it as such.

Just as in the future, Teslas robotaxi will not require safety drivers.

Ford sucks so hard for doing this.
https://driveteslacanada.ca/news/for...rollaway-risk/
Ford traced the problem to binding between internal components within the Integrated Park Module, which can prevent the system from fully engaging Park. This binding is linked to manufacturing variations and increased friction between the affected parts.

If the condition occurs, drivers may notice that the Park indicator does not illuminate, along with a wrench warning light and a shift system fault message appearing in the instrument cluster. Ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue at this time.

Rather than replacing hardware, Ford plans to resolve the issue through an over-the-air (OTA) software update. The update is designed to detect and address the binding condition within the park module, allowing Park to engage properly.
What Ford is doing here is cycling the mechanism over and over hoping this means it cycles into the correct position.

I know people have been trapped inside before but I’m specifically referring to the night of the blackout. Nobody has been trapped. The Waymo’s have only stopped moving at intersections

People were able to open the door and walk away when the cars were stopped in the middle of the intersection that's your claim?

I don't think anyone was technically trapped in the car. Would you get out in the middle of an intersection with a lot of traffic? Probably not

Sure they were, you can't get out until the car lets you or tech support steps in. Like this guy.
