2023 Exports from Shanghai: Tesla began exporting Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured at Giga Shanghai to Canada in 2023. These shipments showed up at Canadian ports (such as Vancouver) and were offered for sale in provinces like British Columbia with VINs confirming Chinese build origin
Tariff Shift in 2024: In October 2024, Canada imposed a 100 % tariff (effectively 106.1 % including other duties) on EVs manufactured in China, which drastically increased the cost of importing Tesla vehicles from Shanghai and significantly reduced those imports.
Recent Policy Reversal (2026): In January 2026, Canada agreed with China to reduce the tariff back to around 6.1 % and allow up to 49,000 Chinese-manufactured electric vehicles per year at this rate. This broader opening means Tesla could resume importing vehicles from its Shanghai factory to Canada under the new lower tariff regime
If you want Elon to read your message, you have to throw in some insults, something like: "Look *******, you're *** needs to import 49,000 cars from Shanghai. Are you dumb?"

I have a feeling that the Chinese government will be controlling who gets to send those cars to Canada.
Tesla and Ford/Toyota and GM should have the early start as there cars will likely immediately pass Canadian regulations for safely. And then the Chinese brands will start to ship. Could be right the government may control what cars are sent.
Apparently, BYD already has a manufacturing plant in Canada. They make Electric buses. It won’t be long before BYD starts to make cars locally.

Only Tesla sells/produces same EVs in China and Canada.
Ford/Toyota/GM would need to change their models and that would make no sense.
Now, BYD has big presence in central and south america, so that would make sense too. I assume some other big ones like one of the Cherry brands as well as Geely.
LOL, this is the Xpeng G9. The official website states 580 kilometers of range, which is about 360 miles. If you convert 932 kilometers to miles, you get 580 miles. Someone did the math wrong there. Do people stop and think before regurgitating information?
