Not sure if relevant. The dislike for Elon Musk and Tesla in general since the 2025 is significant. Sales are down 62% some even advocate for the cancellation of Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship. The hatred for Tesla because of Elon Muskruns deep in Canada, Then there is the 25% tariffs that Canada charges to US made Teslas.

ironically, all the supercharge locations are always busy full of Teslas. So it looks like they’re still popular.

add in a luxury tax as well. 25% tariffs and a luxury tax.

well done, you missed the point entirely. tesla operates 40% of all charging stations in canada. if Chinese cars aren’t granted access to them by tesla, that will dampen their appeal, no?

There's still a TON driving around here.

Teslas should get cheaper in Canada because now Elon can ship them in from China.

That's on the higher priced S and X. Don't think there is a luxury tax on the cheaper models.

Since Tesla granted access to everyone, i doubt they will not do it for Chinese. Their charging business needs to generate revenue and profit.

Chinese barrier to entry is passing NHTSA crash tests which are different than rest of the world and will cost millions. But I think they will be fine with it.

At least brands that already are in South America and Europe - such as BYD, Geely and such.

not sure how the government quota is gonna work,
2023 Exports from Shanghai: Tesla began exporting Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured at Giga Shanghai to Canada in 2023. These shipments showed up at Canadian ports (such as Vancouver) and were offered for sale in provinces like British Columbia with VINs confirming Chinese build origin

Tariff Shift in 2024: In October 2024, Canada imposed a 100 % tariff (effectively 106.1 % including other duties) on EVs manufactured in China, which drastically increased the cost of importing Tesla vehicles from Shanghai and significantly reduced those imports.

Recent Policy Reversal (2026): In January 2026, Canada agreed with China to reduce the tariff back to around 6.1 % and allow up to 49,000 Chinese-manufactured electric vehicles per year at this rate. This broader opening means Tesla could resume importing vehicles from its Shanghai factory to Canada under the new lower tariff regime
