Canada dropping Chinese EV tariffs from 100% to 6% in exchange for a drop in agriculture tariffs. Capped at 49k cars but will eventually get to 70k over the next 5 years. Canada’s about to get some cool stuff

So another win for an EV lifestyle. My wife left home yesterday morning to show some houses, and it was snowy...she called me that she had no gas and no time to stop. That happens to me all the time, I will forget to get gas on my way home and then I will leave the next morning running behind and realize I have no gas and no time to stop.
Sure would be nice to leave with 300 miles of range every morning!

Apparently the new EVs coming to Canada from China will have to be under $25K USD. Eventually Chinese investment will save the Canadian EV manufacturing and industry from collapsing

"have to be" as in mandates to be under $25K USD? why?
and what investment will they be making if they're just importing cheap cars?
is there any 'canadian ev manufacturing and industry' there today to collapse?

St Thomas ON makes batteries. GM Ingersol makes EV vans. Stellantis was
making the EV Charger just north of Toronto. Plug In Pacifica was made in Windsor ON…all have been cancelled or significantly idled. Prior to 2025 all these plants were all connected to US and Mexico supply chains with no tariffs…Toyota is building batteries in Woodstock for RAV4 too

Existing Canadian car manufacturing will
likely convert to EVs.

Not 100% certain that is true. But average cost of Canadian cars when converted to USD are about $4K to $5K cheaper. For the first time ever apparently

well the looney's not doing too well so that's no doubt part of it, and there's market forces as to what people will bear.
The new version starts at about $49,990 CAD in Canada, undercutting the Model Y Premium All-Wheel Drive by roughly $15,000 CAD, which until now had been the lowest-priced option.
Interestingly, if we take exchange rates into account, the Model Y Standard is cheaper in Canada versus the USA, which starts at $39,990 USD. That price equates to about $55,592 CAD. So the Standard Model Y Canadian pricing is about $5,600 ‘cheaper
