and didn’t update to a new Porsche Cayenne replacement..
as i pointed out a new cayenne ev STARTS at more than twice the price of a model Y so maybe said owner couldn't do it or didn't think it was worth it. the cayenne he had as mike pointed out was ancient (13 yrs). the model Y would feel like a comfortable space ship compared to a 2012 cayenne jalopy.
this is the ev forum. why don't you (and perhaps striker) go back to pontificating on the virtues of physical shifters and other appendages, fancy leather, 8+ cylinder engines, etc., in the ice (cat shat) forum.
This is what I don't understand...why does a car being an EV vs an ICE impact whether it makes sense for someone to want a physical control for selecting forward, reverse or park? That has nothing to do with the powertrain choice.
You make this out to be an EV vs ICE thing and its just not.

ICE drivetrain usually has a mechanical mechanism, that's why the shifter exists. How do you not realize this? You keep saying ICE and EV are basically the same in fact they should look and feel exactly the same. They don't because they aren't. What do you think this is?

Is this for specific vehicle? Most modern cars have forgone the linkage format, and essentially just an on off button. Evs makers can replicate the shifter, if consumers demand it.
Shifters have not been physically connected to the transmission for a long time, its just an electronic switch whether its an ICE or an EV. I just want a physical control for selecting forward, reverse or park. Has nothing to do with EV vs ICE I'm not saying it needs to be an old school huge shifter. I like the control on my Mercedes fine...a control that is also used on many many EVs and was used on Teslas also.
MB, BMW, Ford, Hyundai etc etc all have the same control interfaces in their ICEs and their EVs.
I want an EV that feels and looks the same as the cars I have always driven, I'm not the only one. You want something different and quirky and thats fine but there are lots of people like me that aren't going to go to EVs if they are dramatically different than what we are used to and like. Thats why manufacturers are coming out with lots of EV models that are basically indistinguishable from traditional ICE vehicles. I will have lots of EV options when the time comes for me to get a new car that will give me what I'm looking for.

not true for my ioniq for example. it's not a moving (up/down) 'stalk' like normal column shifters, it's fixed in position, and you ROTATE the end to select forward/backward/ there's a button in the end to select park.

yes, you've stated this dozens of times.

good for you. i suspect the next bmw i7 will be more like ix3 than the current frankenstein monstrosity.
