The Tesla Nav is almost identical in look and feel to Google maps nav, so I'm curious to know what you think about Apple Carplay maps as being light years ahead of Tesla's Nav in terms of look and feel as mentioned by swjames.
It seems you prefer to use Google maps nav and not Carplay based on your feedback above, that's why I'm curious.
I've not used the built in Tesla navigation. Its not just GoogleMaps though, you have Waze and Apple Maps, you have the apple designed interface for apple music and messaging, etc. Other apps that use CarPlay that can be very useful.

Google Maps does the same now.

I couldn't care less about fancy 3D renderings of the Tesla UI.
Lets agree to disagree that the Nav looks dated and how rudimentary it is in terms of feel.
I'm glad the rudimentary nav is not a show stopper for buying a Tesla, because if it was, that would be a bit of a "huh?!" moment. 👍
This is why having CarPlay/AA as an option is best. You can use the built in system or CarPlay. Whichever you prefer. I like things about each and use both.

No, I wasn't asking your opinion of the Tesla Nav. I was asking your opinion of Carplay vs. Google maps as you seemed to prefer Google maps. The Tesla map base is Google map base. So your opinion on Google maps would theoretically be very similar to what it would be for the Tesla Nav.
Yeah, I sometimes use Google maps when I want to double check the Tesla recommended route based on traffic when I'm in an area I'm familiar with .
I also occasionally use ABetterRoutePlanner in the browser of the Tesla UI

You mean Apple Maps vs Google Maps? CarPlay isn't a mapping system, I use GoogleMaps through CarPlay.
I prefer Google Maps because I like the satellite map. Really thats the only reason, Apple Maps is also great. I find Waze is the best at routing around traffic. Thats why I like to have all of them as options. ABRP also has a CarPlay app.

Tesla reportedly gets its routing data from MapBox and others, not Google. The displayed map may be from Google, but the routing - the big thing for a navigation app - isn't.

👍
Apple Maps now has EV integration for supported vehicles (so SoC, efficiency and preferred networks are factored in to routing) and ABRP now has certain real time EV integrations over and above its ability to connect via Bluetooth to your OBDII port for real time data.

Yes, that's why I said this.

And routing is definitely the most important thing about a navigation app and from my personal experience over the last 5.5 years, the routing in the Tesla map is very good. I usually compare it to Google maps when it's not a simple route or it's a very traffic dense route and I invariably use the Tesla route as it's pretty much identical more than 98% of the time.

In Hyundai's 2024 and newer unfortunately doesn't have any way to precondition the battery for charging unless you use the OEM navigation and select a charger destination and use it to get there. If you plug in carplay at all to use any of the nav apps, it turns off and does not precondition for the fast charge.
Terrible design. 2025 added a menu option to turn it on.

wouldn't think weather where you are would warrant pre-conditioning. i've never used it in mine, lol.

sure that's not a software update to give it to yours?
