And to be clear, I’m not claiming an over-the-top portable infotainment system like CarPlay is better or a substitute for a full end-to-end stack like Tesla which is the gold standard from a feature and functionally perspective. I’m saying based on what I’ve observed Apple navigation has a much richer in-use UI than Tesla navigation, and the added benefit of millions more iPhones contributing real-time data.
and as at least one person here knows, I’ve been looking to buy a Tesla this week so the rudimentary nav isn’t a deal killer 😉

I can see camera warnings, i can see roadworks, live mapping is same as with google maps, and now i can even see precipitation along my route.
it works well, i dont use waze anymore.
there is definitely a diff between europe and usa, both with Tesla and Apple. Our Tesla maps are better and updates they keep doing to nav in past 12 months are really nice.

I couldn't care less about fancy 3D renderings of the Tesla UI.
Lets agree to disagree that the Nav looks dated and how rudimentary it is in terms of feel.
I'm glad the rudimentary nav is not a show stopper for buying a Tesla, because if it was, that would be a bit of a "huh?!" moment. 👍
I keep my phone running Waze in parallel to my Rivian/Tesla nav for that reason. I keep the screen off and just keep audio alerts on. Very helpful to have.
You don't understand, there's not a single thing that Tesla doesn't do better than everybody else, and it's morally wrong to ever imply differently on this forum. IDK why everybody hasn't done the right thing and sold all their non -Teslas and purchased a Model 3.

Best damn car I've owned 👍

The Tesla Nav is almost identical in look and feel to Google maps nav, so I'm curious to know what you think about Apple Carplay maps as being light years ahead of Tesla's Nav in terms of look and feel as mentioned by swjames.
It seems you prefer to use Google maps nav and not Carplay based on your feedback above, that's why I'm curious.

The "rudimentary nav" has (so far in 5 years) never left me stranded or wanting for prettier graphics etc.

Yeah, I sometimes use Google maps when I want to double check the Tesla recommended route based on traffic when I'm in an area I'm familiar with .
I also occasionally use ABetterRoutePlanner in the browser of the Tesla UI

No, I wasn't asking your opinion of the Tesla Nav. I was asking your opinion of Carplay vs. Google maps as you seemed to prefer Google maps. The Tesla map base is Google map base. So your opinion on Google maps would theoretically be very similar to what it would be for the Tesla Nav.

I prefer Google Maps because I like the satellite map. Really thats the only reason, Apple Maps is also great. I find Waze is the best at routing around traffic. Thats why I like to have all of them as options. ABRP also has a CarPlay app.
