The number of car owners/drivers is obviously huge. Reportedly it's reasonably close to 1 car per US resident at around 300 million vehicles.

The number of people who like and appreciate cars is going to be a decent amount but clearly much smaller number.

The number of people who would reasonably qualify as enthusiasts probably isn't that big.

The number of people who spend the time we do discussing cars etc is very small.

We're not at all representative of the general population.

I mean, pretty much now that I really think about it since we got talking about it. Yes. The "average" S-Class driver I see is a woman at least 50. I'll definitely have a real eagle eye once we get home so I'll see what I see (if I ever make it out of hereeeeeee ugh staying another day) and report. How many S-classes do you see a day?

The only S-Class owners I know personally or know of who have one are women, one is someone my Mother's age.

I'm not saying there aren't Knoxville men who drive them or anything...

This is true. I'm not saying we are, I'm just saying what the demographics are around where I live. It even surprises me a little that I see more woman S-Class drivers than men now that we got to talking about it.

But alas I hate to drag this EV thread further OT.

Nobody buys an Escalade because it's fast. They buy it because it's smooth, quiet, and spacious. Nobody winds them out on canyon roads... unless they are running from the cops, or are absolutely bananas.

I don't know if an EV Escalade will sell or not, but in my experience, once people get behind the wheel of an EV, the experience of driving one blows them away. My coworker is an example, owns two 911's, after test driving my Y, 6 months later he now owns his first EV and absolutely loves it. If people just take them out for a drive, in most cases they sell themselves

What about your friend who has a W223 and hates the 48v system who replaced his W222 with one? I went back and checked, you definitely referred to that person as "him"

huge majority of s-class drivers that i see where i live are female, middle-aged and older. they live in very nice gated communities. "hubby" drives a truck, a big suv, or a sports car.

doesn't seem like you hate it.

but yeah, i do wish this could be kept to ev conversation, not gas guzzling suv's and s-classes.

Forgot about him, because he dumped it. He wasn't into an S-Class hybrid. I told him to trade it and order the diesel, that's the one I'd want. But he's in a Cayenne now.

Yes, you live in the South and I live in the South. Somewhat similar. Steve, you never took my word for how many 200LX/LCs there are around where I live until you saw for yourself when you went to St. Augustine or whatever.

LOL, ditch his W223 that drives identical to an W222 because it’s hybrid and order a diesel S Class that isn’t sold in the US? Got it.

Back to the EV Escalade I don’t think you will see it selling similarly to the gas Escalade anytime soon. For one the IQ is a lot more expensive, and you lose the towing ability etc.

Never say never. California is the capital for enthusiasts. Other than Dubai, we have probably (I'm just guessing) the most exotics. We are definitely the capital when it comes to modding culture. Yet we now have over 26 percent new EV sales. So I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying never say never. That's what people said about Tesla, that it was DOA

If the Escalade had a V8 gas, diesel and EV…everyone is happy.

I agree.

450 is indeed good

I also think the Lyriq looks good but they have lots of buggy software issues, or they did not so long ago.
Performance of the diesel is too slow. Lyriq has grown on me too. Haven’t heard about buggy software
