More cash doesn't make Rivian more efficient they need to become cash flow positive. R.J. said they will be gross margin positive by the end of 2024 they need to deliver on this promise.

True but they aren't going to survive off R1s and EDVs. They need to get an R2 line running ASAP and this funding will go a long way in getting that going

Is the plan to offset losses selling the R1 via profits from the R2? If R1 is a perpetual money loser then when R2 is in production R1 should be killed off.

Clearly not since RJ has been consistent with moderate gross profit for Q4. The point is that a profitable R1 will not be sufficient for Rivian to grow in the future

Problem with the EQ line is there is no aggressiveness in any of their designs, they are totally soft and smooth and don't convey any sense of elegance or power. That just doesn't move the needle for buyers who are going to spend a lot of money on a car and they want it to make them feel a certain way. Compare to say, a Model S. It has that low, wide rear end and those big rear haunches that make ot looks sleek and powerful:

Just a MUCH more attractive dedicated EV design.

Or an S Class that looks stately and elegant with all the right proportions:

MB should have just made the regular S class diesel, gas, hybrid, plug in and battery all on one design like the BMW 7 series

Issue is it wouldn’t have been as good looking because they would have needed to make it taller to house the batteries the way the 7 Series is.

That would have been the better approach though

Yeah I love the i7 but I’m in this car until at least 2026. I’ve always thought the S Class was better looking though.

By then they will have full access to Tesla's supercharger network, and now Tesla is deploying their v4 chargers capable of 500 kW charging, so you'll be in good position by that time
