I have a challenge for you. Keep your next car for 12 years and we'll check back in 2037. I guarantee you'll have a leak.
I have not always kept cars that short a time. In fact I own a 2003 ES300 with 215k miles and the sunroof has never leaked. I also had a 95 Ford Explorer until 2016 and the sunroof never leaked. I have lots of family and friends who have cars with sunroofs that are old and none of them leak.

Like anything else if you maintain them and keep the drains clear and the gaskets in good shape, they won’t leak. If it sits outside under a tree for 12 years and is never maintained yeah it’ll leak because the drains will be all clogged.

I really have warmed up to these type of glass roofs as long as there’s some sort of diffuser or cover. I thought the Lexus electric vehicle was amazing in how it would darken the roof to block out sun

I have said many times the sunroof is a dealbreaker. But I’m not so sure with an electric vehicle

if an EV had a fixed roof with no glass and no sunroof I would reject it.

Correct! Service center messed up. I'll need to have the roof reinstalled

Most of the time I keep my shade closed, but on a nice day I like to open it up and let the sunlight in, and on a nice spring or fall day I like opening it up.

Car companies do lots of research. Cars with no glass in the roof are cheaper to make, if most people didn’t want sunroofs or glass roofs car companies wouldn’t make them.

Im more in favor of fixed sunroof with physical sun shade no audi style mesh. Taking care of a opening unit is a no bueno.

Sunlight really opens up any car cabin.

i don't mind solid or glass roof, but have ZERO interest in a 'sun'/'moon' roof. (bonus points: what's the difference between sun and moon roof? )

by slick i assume you mean not opening.

not sure what audi style mesh is.

yeah, to heat.

my ioniq has glass panoramic roof section with a motorized 'split' (in the middle) retracting cover inside that's pretty neat, although i never use it.
my lc500 has a carbon fiber roof that looks very cool (to me).

I think the LC500/LC500h has a glass roof too…. Bringing it back to electric vehicles…have you checked out the RZ300 roof that has that cloud thing where it darkens the the window? I think that is pretty cool

The Audi E-Tron GT has that as well. With a push of a button I can be clear, clouded out so you can’t see out of it or you could do a mix where it had a funky pattern. I also thought that was pretty cool.

lc has a glass roof option in one of the trim levels (touring maybe) but i've never seen one.

i've not checked that one out but it's not toyota/lexus' first... it was available on the venza cuv. nice feature.

I'll take that bet! I've owned 5 cars with moonroofs for more than 12 years each (6th is almost there at 9 years). Not one leak ever. My parents have also had a few for similar timeframes, with no leaks.

Across my family and immediate friends, the only sunroof that has ever leaked was in a 1982 Datsun Maxima.

I don't think leaks are that common anymore, but our RX moonroof rattles. I've heard others complain about sunroof/moonroof rattles over the years. Usually because the seals dry out. Unfortunately, you can't just buy the seal for our RX anymore and Lexus wanted $1600 to replace the glass. We never use it, so I found a way to put in shim in to tighten it up when it is closed, so it's a non-issue for now. I prefer a solid roof for many reasons. I have a roof shade that stays in the Plaid all the time.

I've been seeing more ZDX on the road and was wondering why until I saw an ad from the local Acura dealer. 24 months lease, $4K down, $159 a month. Only 7,500 miles a year.

Then I looked at the local Honda dealer and Prologues are going for 36 months, $0 down, $159/month, 10k miles a year.
