The problem, though, is that your idea of driving "properly" seems to be driving faster than probably 95% of the surrounding traffic (and way above the posted limits)....and then complaining that "money" won't allow you to go triple-digit speeds. Sorry...I just don't buy that.
It also flies in the face of the laws of physics. All else equal, the faster you go, the more kinetic energy the vehicle has, the longer it takes to stop, and the more severe an accident will be if one does occur.

i appreciate that most people have 0 interest in fast / spirited type driving, but very few people actually practice defensive driving and instead end up becoming hindrances and hazards to others
but i didn't say i don't like participating in it, because obviously if i didn't like it, i wouldn't.when i was a moderator though, i disagreed with the concept of having it, but now, it's great, i don't care and can be lazy and post almost everything (non ev) here.

exactly.
Nah, I prefer the hood ornament of the Jag and the flying lady of RR over the 3-pointed star, even though I never personally owned the former two, my dad owned a Jag in my childhood, and I love that thing on the hood. As something to collect and hold in the hand to admire, the 3 pointed star is NOTHING to look at.
This is the type of insight I appreciate from you and from this thread. The guy who advised me not to buy an LS460 is an independent mechanic and was a certified master technician before he went out on his own. He is probably close to 60 and seems disinterested in jobs of that scale and physical toll. There’s another local guy who was/is highly recommended here, so I would trust that shop. Finding a clean enough one is another challenge. My neighborhood is oddly fairly plentiful when it comes to very clean LS430s. There must be eight of those rolling around and they are in very nice condition.
I was really wanting to buy my dad a used LS430 a few years ago. He's in his 70's and only goes to the store and back and I wanted the luxury for him.
Something with no payments to burden him with.
Hung out in the LS forums and quickly realized it didn't fit his needs.
He wanted no repairs, maintenance, good gas mileage, and small with easy to park.
Luxury cars, especially used, are not for everyone. Lol
He got another new RAV4, loves it.

I only like the Jaguar hood ornament on their classically styled sedans. It looks weird on everything else and I'm glad they got rid of it. I liked the face of the Jaguar just fine for all other purposes. My grandma had a XJ6 Vanden Plas just like this when I was in my single digits and I just loved it. The gold Jaguar badge, lambswool carpets (not pictured below), and wood tray tables really set off the interior for me at the time. It was the polar opposite of the S600 coupe my grandpa bought at the same time.

Yeah the 540i gets away from you really easy as well. I had it on cruise at the speed limit the entire way home from my Thanksgiving vacation last night. Averaged 35 MPG per the computer, doing 65 for the first hour and 75 for the last 2 hours on the freeway, lots of hills.

Speaking of Jags.... Here's another drool-worthy comparison test posted by C&D. 1998 luxury cars. 740iL, S320, A8, LS400. Vanden Plas..
Guess which one won...

I remember reading that at the time, and I remember test driving all those cars when we were looking for the LS400. Pretty cool for a 17 year old to get to drive all those incredible cars. The only one we didn’t look at was the Audi.
The S Class and the 7 were significantly bigger than the LS, but the LS at the time was just a package that was right sized in and out and just an undeniable value for a car that in many ways was also the best car. Best riding, quietest, smoothest engine. In the end for my dad it was between the 740 and the LS, there was a CPO 97 740 if I remember correctly that he really seriously considered. We were so excited with the LS we used to trade off driving to and from places lol
My dad would be really tickled that I have an S Class…

When I was 19 years old I got a job as an oil and tire changing grunt, starting out at the bottom.
I thought I was hot stuff because I'd already replaced two blown engines in my Mustang by myself.
Ticked off because I felt changing oil was beneath me, I then got schooled on my first Jaguar oil change.
I couldn't find the oil filter!
Engine design looked completely foreign, it was. Duh. Lol
Moral to the story, just because a man can DIY his own car doesn't mean he's automatically qualified to work on someone else's. Haha
I found the oil filter, eventually... lol
