Honestly, I would rather have RWD. I just prefer the way a RWD car feels, even rear biased AWD doesn't feel the same. If I lived in a place where I consistently got snow I would just get winter tires.
I would have chosen a RWD S560 if I could have found one.
I prefer AWD nowadays with today's overpowered vehicles. We don't get much snow here in Seattle but it can be tiring dealing with traction issues in damp weather conditions even with a set of good tires. Come summertime (dry season) RWD all day for me though.

I have never driven an AWD car so I'm not much help here. Lol

do you notice any torque steer?
my dad's 2015 E63 has 4matic but it's an AMG specific 2/3 rear 1/3 front split... even with only 1/3 of the power going to the front though you can still feel the wheel ever so slightly tugging at your hands as the front tires find little ruts and dips in the road as you're accelerating, something my RWD E-class doesn't have happen

I wasn't a big fan of that torque split and am glad it's been phased out. It being a fixed ratio was to its detriment imo.
Only time I may wish I had AWD is if I get caught in ice or something in NC when I go up for christmas holiday.
I always try to pull into NC in the afternoon just in case a cold snap with ice in the morning.
And, I pretty much leave my car parked until I leave unless the roads are dry and no snow or ice, then I will drive. Lol
oh yea right florida... i'm so used to only seeing AWD models of things like the RX, Highlander, RAV4, etc... i forget they can also be FWD only in other parts of the country lol

well there's definitely no shortage of traction, we've taken that car upstate to go skiing many times and it's yet to be defeated by light snowfall lol
also fixed split or not it's still more than able to get down a bust a few moves
here's one for all the steve wozniak fans (he likes repeating digits lol)
naturally i had to record for about 2 minutes before i got 22.2 MPG to pop up haha... i won't get to try this again for another 111,111 miles
haha, but i don't think you'll get 33.3mpg with the way you drive.

interesting. my neighbor with the two s-classes prefers the 4matic one.
I've never owned an AWD vehicle. I've driven a couple but not in conditions where they would help, so I can't really evaluate. For snow driving, I have my truck which is 4x4. I can throw a couple hundred pounds in the bed and drive it in 2wd even.

Nope, no torque steer

Yeah one of my LS460s was AWD and the other was RWD, I preferred the RWD one.

So would I, if one had a choice.....although that's a little too much car for my needs.
As for the 33 MPG, if one cruises at moderate speeds, without a heavy load, on level surfaces, doesn't use the AC compressor much, and doesn't vary speed or RPM up and down, many vehicles are capable of surprising MPG on the Interstates. I myself, in the Encore GX, have done over 50 in mild weather, although mid-20s are my usual in stop and go driving.
