General Car Conversation
yup, because it's easy to be lazy and just post any and everything here.
it isn't club-1-thread-abouit-everything though.
i don't see how that's useful info because that would only be relevant if no further posting were done to a thread, it doesn't work for threads subsequently posted to.
And yes it is a social club. In fact the word “Club” is in the sites name.
The threads in the forum are in chronological order, you just go back through the pages until you find all the threads that were responded to in a given day.
I enjoy the thread and like learning about cars I don’t own but am interested in. I like the S Class. I chose not to buy an LS460 because my technician friend warned me about the front suspension being an expensive point of failure. I am not a handy guy. I can change a tire and used to do my own oil changes. Replacing suspension components is not on my resume or in my skill set.
A car I like but wouldn’t own is the W124 body style E500. They are collectible now. The instrument display and control switches were outdated when the cars rolled off the assembly line. I get that not everything is timeless. When I had my 1994 GS300, the needles started to flicker and the backlighting looked brown to yellow. I sent the cluster to a guy here (Lextech Lighting) and he refreshed it with clean backlighting and blood red needles. That was great and I only sold the car because I thought a 22 year old car that sucks gas and has 221k on the clock was not a great daily driver anymore.

I like it bc the conversation can go wherever.
If I want to post about my specific car, I go to that thread. I fully expect to be going back to it decades from now to read it all, the documentation I’ve posted about MY car.
93 in a 55 inadvertently, that’s an S Class for ya! My first experience was riding in a W140 in flat south Florida with the somewhat expansive 4 lane roads. I was looking out the window, I knew we were speeding but I looked at the dial and we were going 100MPH. I remember being just stunned. Red light? The car came from 100 to a stop like we were going 30. Insanity.
der sonderklasse just wants to get to the office sooner and put an end to the country music as quick as possible lmao...
but yes it's unfair how an S-class and a first generation ford explorer have the same speed limits apply
Spoiler
Hate when that happens!
Yeah the 540i gets away from you really easy as well. I had it on cruise at the speed limit the entire way home from my Thanksgiving vacation last night. Averaged 35 MPG per the computer, doing 65 for the first hour and 75 for the last 2 hours on the freeway, lots of hills.
I wouldn't not buy an LS460 because of the front control arms. It's an overstated failure, and can be rectified pretty easily and cost effectively with an independent mechanic. It's true that the S Class doesn't have that issue, but a brake job on my S Class at an independent cost $2,200...brake job for an LS460 is $750. Fact is these kinds of cars are just expensive to maintain, what you might save with one issue gets absorbed in another issue etc.
I don't see anything in this thread that needs to be taken personally. The decision was made and while some (including me) don't favor it, it's not like it's the end of the world.
Something with no payments to burden him with.
Hung out in the LS forums and quickly realized it didn't fit his needs.
He wanted no repairs, maintenance, good gas mileage, and small with easy to park.
Luxury cars, especially used, are not for everyone. Lol
He got another new RAV4, loves it.

our interstates are often even more wide open and straight than the autobahns yet we risk fines and even imprisonment because people can't drive properly... but as long as money is the goal behind traffic enforcement and not safety i don't see things changing

The problem, though, is that your idea of driving "properly" seems to be driving faster than probably 95% of the surrounding traffic (and way above the posted limits)....and then complaining that "money" won't allow you to go triple-digit speeds. Sorry...I just don't buy that.
It also flies in the face of the laws of physics. All else equal, the faster you go, the more kinetic energy the vehicle has, the longer it takes to stop, and the more severe an accident will be if one does occur.
