There is nothing like driving a substantial Mercedes with the star in your direct view, nothing.
IMO almost any hood ornament, within reason, makes the view out over the hood a lot nicer. In fact, back in the 1940s and early 50s, some cars even had lights in the ornament for a nice touch at night....as with this 1952 Pontiac.
Hood ornaments seem to have gone out of favor with many automakers, though, for three main reasons.....cost (always cost LOL), pedestrian-hazards, and thievery/vandalism from kids. Rolls-Royce, of course, solves the problem by dropping the Flying Lady ornament down into the hood under a small door when the engine is off, but most automakers obviously cannot afford that. Spring-loaded ornaments helped the pedestrian-impact problem some, but also made it easier for kids to break the springs and steal them.

Probably helps if I know what I'm looking for. lol
I haven't seen any cars with Crown badges tho.

.
Yeah, your probably right, times have changed.
My old ford jacked up bronco came with a bulldog hood ornament when I got it and nobody messed with it.
Nope, even the Flying Lady isn't as good as the MB star in my opinion. I've sat in a Rolls, don't get me wrong... not saying it's junk lol. But Mercedes-Benz hands down one of the best emblems of all time, the best car emblem IMO. I love looking at the one star I do see (it's chrome) when I turn my steering wheel, it's just so uniform and perfect, the 3 pointed star. Nothing tops a MB hood ornament IMO, even if the Rolls Royce itself does car for car.

There are a number of auto companies with star-theme logos for hood ornaments. Noted examples are where Chrysler products of the early 1980s used both regular metallic and glass-crystal Penta-star hood ornaments.

I agree but I'd never get away with it since everybody knows it's MB.
At least with the Flying Lady, not many people will know it's a Rolls because not many around.
That's my wishful thinking anyway. Lol

Oh I totally remember those. Lincoln, Olds had them too. Among many others. Not so much foreign cars except Mercedes and Jag.
I’m seeing quite a few Crowns around as well. They look better in real life than in photos, but I’m still not a fan of the styling.

‘I agree with the two of you. Way better in person than in pics.
I don’t understand why both Porsche and Toyota have the door cladding

‘I have had one for more than 30 years. All four of my cars have one. And my 4Runners are slightly oversized too. It would be really difficult to adjust to the absence of one.

The best Accord which is a car that Tail of the Dragon worthy (chassis is that good) has 204hp and a hybrid in 2023. The new Camry lost the monster 3.5 and now has I think 224hp, also, hybrid only. So neat!
V8s are gone, from cars at least with very few exceptions. Yes, cars suck lol.
No one bought an Accord to take to the track but it has a great chassis, and had great engines, until now. That 2.0t was an absolute monster, and quite fuel efficient too I might add.
Yes I know it wasn't the mainstream motor and sold less than the 1.6, but I see quittttte a few of those 2.0t Accords, all the time.
I think Porsche has an all new V8 with hybrid this year.

I only had 23 years with exclusively sunroof-equipped cars and/or convertibles in the fleet, but found it an easier adjustment to not having one than I expected. Yes, I do still miss it sometimes (certainly not today when it's 21F ambient/12F windchill ). But I don't have buyer's remorse over it.
Here’s what I mean about seeing noticeably more blogs on absolutely lust worthy ICE only cars, wayyyyyy more than usual. I doubt I’m the only one who never renewed their subscription. Didn’t care for where the magazine was going.
^^ sure they've got to try to do something to attract enthusiasts, the majority of whom are not into ev's.
I think they definitely overplayed their hand, for sure and seemingly got some pushback. I've subscribed to those mags since the early 90s, I would never give them a cent now nor is there anything I want to read in them. Kinda sad.
You've got MT editors calling readers hypocrites if they don't like electric cars but use a laptop with batteries. That bad.

I haven't bought a car magazine in years.
For one, they aren't cheap.
And, for two, they are full of ads just like they've always been so I might as well watch a youtube video and get served up ads anyway. Lol
And they can call me a hypocrite for keeping old ICE for now all they want, that stuff doesn't work on me.
