BTW subscriptions are cheap, but yeah on the shelves they're expensive.
I couldn't believe what that guy said passed through the editors, or that he was stupid enough to say something like that. Using a laptop on batteries has zero to do with not being into battery powered cars. Am I supposed to install a desktop in every room???? That guy needs to be fired and fast. He didn't use the "H" word per se but he was like "Don't get me started on people who dislike EVs and use laptops with batteries."
Oh BTW, the SL500 hardtop got sold. Kind of a bummer but oh well, I have the rest of my life to find another one. At least I don't have to drive 8 hours there and back, another one will pop up. Couldn't get it anyway because I had Covid and was sick, no worries.
Honestly, honestly, it's not a terrible thing because putting the top on blocks the soft top operation (obviously). You CAN'T let the soft top sit in these cars, it will break. I just went out and cycled mine which I plan to do a couple times a month over winter. Keeping these cars running and greased and well oiled machines---that's the key to keeping them very reliable. The soft top has been flawless and we have used the HELL out of it in the year we've had the car, like it's a new car.
R129 has a very nice soft top to begin with, but I'll find a hardtop eventually.

ajt, magazines are the past. they'll do anything to try to raise money, but they're toast. and yeah, they suck too.
we have thousands of video channels providing great (and not so great lol) reviews, comparisons, tests, and more, in VASTLY more scenarios and styles than the "magazines" ever did or could.
youtube is the new magazines.

That's what I'm thinking too.
PLUS, you can drop a link on here and share it, big +++.

Hi All, I don't get the EV vs. ICE strife and I don't mean specifically here, but in general. If you are in to EVs now, you are at the leading edge for mass adoption. I work for the EV side of a big oil company which is apparently evil, but only identifiable by our profit in 2022 and not by name
. I am definitely on board for electrifying fleet vehicles which is mostly what we do in North America. I will likely get an EV when I decide to replace my Civic, which I mostly like accept for the fact the a/c crapped out and it's not even 4 years old yet. I will keep the AE86 as a 4AG-E powered ICE. The engine is built, but just not installed which is more than a minor detail. Sure, I could electrify the AE86, but it would no longer be an AE86. I don't plan to drive the car a ton, so I think the planet will be ok. I am glad people are excited about EVs. In some ways, you are still beta testers. The success rate for public charging is not near where it needs to be and current EV owners are helping the industry improve to the point of reliability, which is a plus. The industry needs you. I am biased toward my employer but I do think big oil being involved in renewable energy and EVs is a net positive.

i've always been in favor of electrifying / hybridizing the mass transit type cars (corolla, sentra, civic, etc...) on the basis that the vast majority of drivers couldn't care less about how their car gets them there as long as it does... and save the great engines and transmissions for enthusiast / race cars where people pretty much only care how their car gets them there lol
how that translates into a profitable business model however idk

Hi all, just a heads up I’m going to close this thread at the end of the year and a new one can be opened for 2024.
it’s too big for me to perform moderator activity (like moving replies out when posted by a newbie that should be in a specific model forum) without CL bombing out in an error. Happens at least once each week.

you hear that giant sucking sound? it's this thread sucking the life out of car chat.
it has more than twice the number of posts as the next busiest thread (you can sort the forum by # of replies).
it covers hundreds of topics though and no one who isn't a regular can find anything. but not being a mod now i no longer care.

Plenty of new threads and topics in Car Chat still, and the thread seems incredibly popular
Activity in 9 threads in Car Chat today, on 11/27/22 before this thread existed there was activity on one thread...so I don't know if thats really accurate.

Sorry to be pedantic, 15+ years in payroll has made me be very specific about which days are "equivalent" from an activity/crowd behavior perspective.
FWIW, I don't know if the results will be any different, and I don't have an opinion one way or the other.

You probably want to look at 11/28/22 for a fairer comparison, as it's the same Monday as today. Last year the 27th was the Sunday after TG, the heaviest travel day of the year.

I really don't feel like the activity in CC outside of this thread has changed...

can I give you a big hug for creating this thread? It really has been a delight
