i didn't care for the shiny black plastic on the steering wheel. The steering wheel left/right button areas do at least still 'click' (the whole area, not each individual button).
This is a big MB issue, piano black. The W223 S Class has it everywhere too
I still can't stand the look. Maybe I will feel differently when I see it in person. If it looked like an S Class it would be my next car.
i think the current s-class will be the last (ICE) one. That's ok because it's so great it will still be viable for a decade or more. This new EQS is obviously 'bold' and will evolve. You'll have the horrible choice of a W223 or an EQS when your current lease is up.
If i had an s class or eqs i'd probably have someone detail it every week so not an issue.
The issue is it gets scratched up unless you are VERY careful with it, so its more than just cleaning it. Just a design trend that will work its way out.

I think it's no surprise the quality of fit and finish is beyond reproach .
I just wish they had decided to not make function over form the priority as far as the exterior design is concerned - it looks too much like a frog. They should have had Audi or Porsche design the exterior for them. The Etron GT and Taycan look soooo much better.
The complexity of the controls and infinite adjustments makes the car way too complicated.
6000 lbs??? OMG. That's more than a friggin G Class,.......
No front trunk - despite that shape.... and only 22 cubic feet under that massive lift gate? Wow.
But it's a very solid effort as their first designed from the ground up EV. No question about that. Credit where credit is due.

Lol - well, and respect to SW17LS, the last and current s-class are pretty smooth aero-focused shapes too. This is just an evolution of that as far as i see, particularly since they don't need a long front to house a massively complex electrified-ICE.

i'm sure porsche/vw/audi would be happy to design a vehicle for their arch enemy mercedes.

definitely complicated, dealers can make money with training classes.

not sure about that, but a model X can be over 5600lbs and obviously doesn't have the sound insulation and zillion motors that this EQS does, although the X does have powered doors of course.

Yes a bit disappointing, but it's a sedan and not a taller uv and i'm guessing all they need all that front space for huge climate system, fluids and many other systems, controls and mechanisms. I know the S has the frunk and NO disrespect to the S, but it's a much simpler vehicle overall.

It is 6000lb because as you increase the battery size, the weight must increase…apparently the range is very good. This new MB has a lot of stuff inside too such as a power doors, double glass windows, hardware for the rear wheel steering, 19 motors per front seat, as well as a sunroof. All of it adds weight. More sound deadening is also required for a EV

Well it isn't required... when i went in a friend's hyundai kona ev i was surprised at the level of road noise.
But it actually is. Because there is more silence you tend to notice more. When you drive a ICE, you don’t notice everything But when you drive a EV, there are more unwanted noises that were always present in a ICE but were just muted out by the ICE

Yeah, no lol. The shape of this car is entirely different from any S Class or any other sedan shape. This car bears no resemblance to any S Class ever made. And as you can see the space in the front is the same, its just a strange cab forward look in the EQS, and as a bonus...it has no use or benefit.
EQS:
W223 & W222:
Love the concept of the EQS, just disappointed its so ugly. The more I see it the uglier I think it is.
Niels van Roji appears to be quite the critical ****. He can't even figure out YouTube with a minute of black to start lol.
Eager to jump on the tiniest inconsistency and subjective design element. And his repeated criticism of mb featuring many locations across the globe is so petty.
As they say it's easier to be a critic than an author.
I'm guessing an eqs and plaid will be similar in price. I'd take the eqs hands down!
