Some other reviewer (don't remember who now) said something that made a lot of sense - MB released so many details on the cars tech, hyperscreen, lowest Cd , range etc but left out the exterior design till the actual reveal. It's almost as if they knew it wasn't so great and decided not to say anything about it till the last minute and instead spent a lot of time on everything else that is really good.
I think thats totally accurate. They left the car's weakest link invisible as long as they possibly could, its styling. I really think they were hamstrung by crash safety regs and the design shape they wanted to achieve. The whole design is just an epic fail IMO. The more I look at it the less I like it.

Here's a relevant snippet from the MT article:
I asked a photographer who worked on the press shots what the EQS is like in person. "Huge," he told me, pointing out that in a studio by itself, the massiveness of the EQS isn't apparent. "Pictures don't convey the scale at all." There are just millimeters of difference between it and the XL new S-Class. But how does it look in the flesh? "It's just underwhelming."
Not a good look when the very photographers that Mercedes hired would publicly badmouth their design.
It was very odd seeing all those reviews with the front and rear of the car covered up. Now we know why- delaying the inevitable.

Same here. Look at what Audi just did with the A6 Etron, I wonder why MB couldn't design something beautiful like that......... I personally think the AMG GT 4 door is one of their best designs - I wish the EQS had looked like this
I think it goes back to trying to design something that doesnt look like a car. The A6 Etron looks like a car, they're not focused on trying to change the car's proportions just because its an electric car. I understand "you dont need that shape" but, that shape is attractive, and its what we think of as a car.
Thats another thing the EQS lacks, any kind of muscularity, its just a blob.

I agree, It’s easy to compare the EQS to the Audi étron and find that the étron is better looking.

i assume you're referring to the e-tron GT as the regular e-tron looks like a nothing special SUV.
the e-tron GT is indeed a beautiful looking vehicle, but it's obviously a lot smaller and lower than the EQS and more like a slightly bigger (maybe) Taycan.

‘’Mercedes went back to their past S class for inspiration. IMO. This S class has some of the presence ever. I think the new EQS is gonna really stand out. Nothing like it on the market when it glides silently down the highway.

I agree with you. What's with the odd quotes in front of a lot of your posts lately?
