Mercedes EQS flagship
The eqs is also a full TWENTY inches longer than that old e class.

And they're not attractive IMO. I mean, they're better looking than the EQS but neither are vehicles I would chose.
Thats part of its appeal. one of my favorite parts of the car is the big long hood. I hate sloping stubby front ends.
They tried to make this car different for the sake of being different, and that may work for early adopters but it wont bring people who aren't looking for something odd into the mix.
and the current S - great car but because it needs a huge front end, it becomes hugely long.

Looking at these photos. The EQS looks better in my opinion. It’s more interesting and new and fresher. The the S class looks a little dated before it’s even released as it just looks very traditional . The rear 1/4 part of the EQS is the part I really like more than anything
The EQS looks the way it does because the designers legitimately thought the FWD jellybean looked great and was "quirky" enough to stand out- not because of aerodynamics.
Great video by the way:

So you're implying the eqs shape plays no role in its aerodynamics and cd?
Anyway, not really important what we think... the market will decide.

Just like BMW's beaver grille- no idea why it looks the way it does when the entire internet has beat it to death, yet BMW's marketing research went with it anyway.
And I'm not "implying" anything here- it's a fact that size has nothing to do with coefficient of drag as you originally claimed with the W124 E-Class. Mercedes could have made the EQS the size of a Hummer and made it a block on wheels and still given it the same drag coefficient if they wanted to. Add more air curtains, lower the ride height, shrink the mirrors, etc...
The Model S Plaid has the same drag coefficient as the EQS and its shape hasn't been modified since it came out in 2012.

And I'm not saying that changes in design are a bad thing, I'm just saying THIS design is ugly IMO. What makes a stunning car shape didnt all of a sudden change overnight because a car is an EV, look at the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Audi E Tron GT, the new Lucid Air, these are all EV cars that retain design cues that make them beautiful cars. There is literally not one beautiful line on this car IMO. Its frumpy, dopey, and I agree it looks way more like an economy car than a $100k+ flagship car.
Mercedes can achieve their goals AND make a beautiful car. To me this car is like a Prius, its weird and ugly looking because it wants to be weird and ugly looking. I think what MB will find is that buyers for weird, off beat cars aren't going to buy a Mercedes because the brand there is vulgar to them, and Mercedes buyers who are interested in an EV aren't going to buy this because its so ugly...you'll find this car sells in EXTREMELY limited numbers. Hopefully it succeeds as a platform for moving EV tech into more appealing products that have more mainstream appeal.

Flagship sedans are supposed to look traditional. My point is, there are a LOT of buyers who don't want a weird looking spacemobile. They want a car that looks like a car, they just want it to be an EV. If Mercedes wants this car to capture its traditional buyers, this design isn't going to do it. If you look at other EV sedans that are out and are coming out, they do a much better job of this.
Thats actually a coupe lol

Mercedes's logic behind the EQS is to try to make it as different from the S-Class as possible because the S-Class already has the image of "old money" that doesn't appeal to younger buyers who go after Tesla Model S's. This is a double edged-sword that hurts the S-Class by not giving it the latest and greatest tech (full EV platform, Hyperscreen etc) while at the same time creating an ugly new car in the form of the EQS that is simply different for the sake of being different like the Cybertruck.
I've said it before- the EQS and S-Class should have been one and the same rather than this silly image-chasing split down the middle.
