As a computer guy I can understand where you are coming from.

There's elegance and balance in not too much and not too little.

Dammit, I drank the koolaid too. Haha

But in fairness, I believe Tesla has earned their place and loyalty, even tho I don't own one.

That upcoming GLC EV interior is a significant upgrade from both the current GLC and the Y and I would agree that this interior takes it into a class above, and as a full BEV it will have many and likely most of the advantages that the Tesla currentlyhas.

But it's not yet available, and it's not the car we're talking about.

I don't see how its a "significant upgrade". The styling is different, but material use and textures etc are all similar. I'm not talking about any of the EV vs ICE benefits or tradeoffs, just the vehicle and its interior and its build and feel. Having spent a not insignificant time in both vehicles the GLC just feels like a higher end vehicle. Its beyond just the interior too, the way the doors close...how the vehicle looks and makes you feel...the feel of driving something relatively rare vs being one of 350k of them added to the road every year. Mainstream car vs luxury car. The current GLC is a very attractive looking car with nice shapes and curves...

But it's slow, underpowered and it relies on the badge to do most of the heavy lifting rather than its own attributes. How is that premium?

And since when did payment define the car? You can lease literally anything for 414 per month with enough down.

How many of them have you driven or been in? The GLC300 does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. The 350e PHEV is 6.2 seconds. The GLC63 e Performance PHEV does 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. Not slow. They are very nice vehicles and as an S580 owner I enjoy driving them, they ride well and are really solid and have great handling, they feel very premium.

Payment and cost absolutely have an impact on what is and what is not a luxury car. $414 with $0 down. What something costs and how accessible is is to everyone is a big part of what makes a luxury item exclusive. His Model 3 is below the average cost of a new car in the US...its not a luxury car

Nothing against the Model 3 or Y but they aren't luxury cars, a MB GLC is an entry level luxury car with the style, content, look, interior and relative exclusivity to match.

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone...

Probably about as many as you. And now we're introducing > 90K AMG vehicles into the mix. Which are also slower than the 3/Y Performance.

These MBs are absolutely not anything other than premium.

I drive these as loaners LOL, I have driven them for multiple days at a time so yeah I have driven them, and in fact I am so impressed by them I have seriously considered getting one. I just totally don't see where you are coming from here and I'm clearly not the only one. And yeah, there are different trim levels of these vehicles...thats part of what makes them a luxury product, a loaded GLC 63e is over $100k. That capability filters down into every version of that model. When Tesla can sell a Model Y with a 6 figure price tag let me know

Proof I've spent time in them? Here are pictures of them in my garage

Driving something that isn't common just adds a bit of umph to ownership. Not sure I would consider it a luxury feature lol but it does impact my buying decision. Probably partially explains why I really want a jaguar lol.

The cars that were under discussion, before the goalpost moving, were the GLC350e and the Model Y Juniper.

The GLC350e is not a luxury car. It is in the same premium class as the Juniper Y. Is that so difficult to understand?

I totally disagree. The GLC 350e is an entry level luxury car and the Model Y Juniper is a mainstream car.

yes and goodness knows what it will cost! i think mb is probably tired of losing a bundle on each ev sold just to be in the game. but apparently high price is important to some to exclude the proles. lol

for you/some perhaps… i couldn’t care less what others drive. i actually enjoy seeing the same car i have on the road! with my lc that was once a year, lol. with my model y, that’s probably once or twice a week (i don’t drive it much, vs. the ioniq).

Probably partially explains why I really want a jaguar lol.
you could get my clients supercharged jag for next to nothing, lol… and i’m not far from you.

Lol yeah not sure if it's a common sentiment but driving a rare car / doing things different just always been something I've done growing up and to this point. I sort of touched on this in another thread...never owned an iPhone, don't wear the popular shoes that all the kids wanted when growing up, etc. on of the reasons I was drawn to Lexus. In my home country you probably see a Lexus once every month. A BMW and Mercedes you would get tired of counting how many per day lol.

I totally get that's a quirk about me and wouldn't say that contributes to making a vehicle considered a luxury vehicle.

That Jag looks so damn good! I loved those too but I know the reliability let's say is questionable. I really want a Jaguar XF Sportbrake (less than 300 in the US) or F Pace SVR which is likely what my next vehicle will be.
