I think Lexus is in on the right path with their Lexus crossovers and their body on frame SUVs.

Welp, saw my first Crown today.

Not sure why but I thought it would be exciting but kind of looks like a camry to me.

 

An upscale platform like Lexuses used to use, I agree with the consensus here.

 

I am not really offended by the TX. I thought I would. I think the FWD design provides better packaging and a cheaper price.

I love the Crown. The side profile is beautiful.

What I want is a Lexus competitor to the GLS and X7. GLE and X5. Would love some sedans, but that’s not going to happen and the LS is likely going to be discontinued.

I’ve been saying that for quite a while.

 

It will just never be more than what it is, a Macpherson strut FWD transverse Lexus version of a Toyota. I would buy one as a minivan replacement for my wife to drive but I would never even consider one for myself, I just want more out of a car than that. That was fine for me when that was what I could afford, but I want more and so do a lot of luxury buyers.

An X7 or GLS? I would drive one of those as my car for sure. I have considered it.

It isn't, thats the point...we want cars in that class category from Lexus. We want Lexus to compete with BMW and MB not Cadillac and Acura.

If Lexus made a 3 row RWD crossover with beautiful styling and a nice ride with an air suspension and a nice quiet interior, I would buy that vehicle for $100,000 today.

 

Lexus has always straddled that line though. Lexus never really compared with BMW or MB on the higher end…just on the lower end of the premium segment. You see that with their lack of top tier engines (V8 turbos and V12s)

Thats just not true. They used to have a very competitive, even class leading flagship car, midsized luxury car and luxury coupe. The midsized car is gone, the flagship car was totally botched and it will be gone, the coupe is still great. Lexus no longer pushes the envelope at all, they are also rans in basically every comparison they are put to, and they no longer are compared to the Germans where they used to always be.

The fact that Lexus lost my business specifically is an example of it. I would have just continued buying Lexuses forever...but they don't make anything for me to buy anymore. SUVs are the new sedans, so if they had a duo or trio of proper RWD layout GA-L platform SUVs that competed with the germans I could excuse the sedans, but they don't. Genesis is what Lexus used to be, at least Genesis has proper RWD layout premium cars that a consumer can opt for if they want more value. I likely wouldn't go to Genesis because I can afford the Germans, but I would have never left Lexus and would absolutely go back to Lexus for the right product.

if you go on MBWorld or the BMW forums, they are FULL of people who feel the same way I do about Lexus and feel the brand left them behind.
