This isn't a dig or a debate it's just something I've noticed over the past couple weeks.
Car mags online like C&D & Motor Trend are heavily testing ICE-only vehicles and actually writing passionately about them.
Wondering if they're getting any pushback from the many who just aren't interested in where things are going.
I'd post this in EV chat but I'm not trying to start any arguments, it's just something I've noticed.
.
The media will write whatever makes the publication money.
I read about a Mercedes AMG today on a FB C&D blog that I honestly didn't even know existed, pure ICE 4.0tt. I was shocked that there was no cheery mention of hybrids and batteries and 1002 hp
What model were they referring to? With the 4.0tt.
Here's another road test comparison worth salivating over from 1998 that they've put on their blog. NSX, Camaro SS, Coreette, XJR, 540i 6speed, 911, Viper.
Notice how fast these cars are with not-crazy power ratings.
Not *one* mention of fuel economy nor is it even listed anywhere.
1998 manual Corvette hit 60 in 3.9 seconds with only 345 horsepower, wow. Remember, this was when clutch pedals were preferred.
Not really a road test comparison lol. It’s their “famous” 0-150-0 test that they actually just brought back this year. Even back in 1998 they’d talk about fuel economy and such in their normal comparison tests.
LOL. I don’t know if suck in the way you say it. But, with the electrification of cars… I find I reject new cars more than I did in the past….just to give you one example, lack of sun or moonroofs is something that doesn’t impress me. I like the new Crown a lot, I love the design and shape of it… but no roof that opens. Same with the Prius…. Something I don’t quite like it is turbos, just adds more complexity in addition to batteries and electric motors, for instance I like the powertrain of the Crown…but it was a battery, a turbo and a bunch of motors…lots of parts break and replace later down the road…

Right but they didn't really care about gas mileage then, it sure as hell didn't decide first place or what was the best car.

The best Accord which is a car that Tail of the Dragon worthy (chassis is that good) has 204hp and a hybrid in 2023. The new Camry lost the monster 3.5 and now has I think 224hp, also, hybrid only. So neat!
V8s are gone, from cars at least with very few exceptions. Yes, cars suck lol.
No one bought an Accord to take to the track but it has a great chassis, and had great engines, until now. That 2.0t was an absolute monster, and quite fuel efficient too I might add.
Yes I know it wasn't the mainstream motor and sold less than the 1.6, but I see quittttte a few of those 2.0t Accords, all the time.
Your ignorance is amazing. It's a dedicated AWD platform with RWD priority and the only one in its class designed that way integrally.
As others have said the A8 is derived from a platform that underpins FWD cars. Thats a strange Audi quirk and it does result in a car that looks pretty FWD.

In your towing case sure, but I wouldn't for my needs and uses. For one I don't have any interest in a pickup, so I would be comparing an Expedition and a Rivian SUV. The Rivian I drove was an SUV.

I agree on the moonroofs. I do open my moonroof a good bit in the spring and fall, and thats one thing I really dont like about the new i7/7 Series is there is this big glass roof that doesn't open.
On another note, I am seeing a LOT of Crowns around
I have not seen any Crowns, that Jag has a killer plate but hideous trimmings.... And yes, I'd kill for a hood ornament too, but it would look stupid on an R129. The lesser convertibles of the time like the CLK class did have ornaments, though, that looked good.
There is nothing like driving a substantial Mercedes with the star in your direct view, nothing.
