I saw your post about the Mitsubishi above and that explains why I am seeing a their engine in a Dodge.

I vaguely remember hearing about that back in the day now that I think about it

We must've been posting at the same time. Lol

Ps- I'm sure lots of techs are cussing the BMW V8.

That's honestly the issue, it requires extreme care and there are SO MANY things to remove. The Audi 4.0 is so much simpler and easy to deal with than these and has far less issues, same with the Mercedes 4.0

Diamond Star Motors. At that time, Mitsubishi was owned by Chrysler This was a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler, and there were several common models across brands. The Mitsubishi Eclipse/Plymouth Laser/Eagle Talon triplets were the most famous of these, but the slightly larger Dodge Stealth/Mitsubishi 3000GT twins were another.

Chrysler didn't own Mitsubishi, Diamond Star Motors was a joint venture.

i think the first fast and the furious has a lot to do with mitsubishis becoming known as meme-able cars... now it's just bright green vinyl wraps and danger to manifold lol

the early 90s galant even had an "AMG model" for the fastest version

I loved it! It's very nice to be able to experience cars like this and yes, those HP numbers were such lies

The "gentleman's agreement" was probably the worst-kept secret in performance cars back in the day. It was particularly hilarious when the Supra went from a 2.5L parallel TT in the Mark III to a 3.0L sequential TT in the Mark IV, and picked up zero horsepower, but 50 lbft of torque, at lower rpm to boot.

i'm fortunate enough to have driven a stock 1994 supra turbo several years ago, and my first impression once that 2nd turbo kicked in at ≈4500 was there's no way this thing is even making only "320 hp"! the ez pass literally shot out of the dash and hit the shifter lmao

by that time i already had the E55 for a few months and i still remember being shocked at how that 2JZ just fires you down the road... then i shed a tear knowing toyota won't make something like this again

Yeah there was a review in one of the car mags at the time that said when the fuel cutoff hit at 155, the car was still accelerating so ferociously that it made it almost to 160 before slowing down. They paired this with a sawtooth velocity chart, showing speed violently spiking from 152 to 158 and then settling back down again, 3 or 4 times.

It was funny when I had my 1994 GS300 that a young service writer almost crapped himself with excitement when he saw the car has a 2J in it. I told him they all do and none of the ones in the US have the factory TT setup like some of the Aristos have.

Consider the source though. I was driving back to work from lunch and the stereo started distorting badly when I stepped on the brake. Not good. I knew I had an alternator issue right away so I put the windows down and turned everything off. The only place I knew I could make it to driving on just the battery was a Sears auto center. They would never have been my first choice but they installed a new alternator and I only missed an hour of work (ok, I won’t really say I was missing it).

But anyway, the young service writer asked if I did the engine swap myself. I said nope but got tired of talking to him so I didn’t explain further.

I had a non-turbo version of that in-line 6 in my 2001 Lexus IS300, and, while it obviously did not have that kind of power, it was well-built, durable as nails, and smooth as butter, although it guzzled premium gas like a V8....something it was famous for.
