When I was a teenager and broke as hell I drove some REAL genuine beaters. lol
Hey, if you gotta get from point A to B anything with wheels is better than walking.

I just parked around back so nobody can see what I pulled up in. lol
Been there, done that!

It was worse than this, oh yeah.

I don't want to bother taking the tow stuff off with LX. Though for sure when we go anywhere remotely close outside of Knox with the boat we will use LX. It's got some dents in it but it is not an eyesore at all, that I could understand having an issue with. It still looks decent shined up, just...used lol.
What you're describing isn't what we're describing. Lets say I were to go out and buy an old Camry and drive that every day instead of my S Class. Thats what I'm talking about.

or a new one. Like me.

My LS430 was my beater before that
My LS400 was my beater before that

None of my beaters are uncomfortable or unsafe. I prefer to have a nicer weekend or long trip / holiday car, and another I can rack up miles on, park in parking decks or grocery store lots all the time without worrying about door dings. I can go to Walmart and not worry about somebody scratching up my car while I'm inside.

Current one is smaller and easier to park, and sips gas, that works perfect for me/my wife right now.

If you're broke and can't afford anything nicer, that's one thing. This guy I worked with had a nice Expedition but chose to drive the Corolla to work. I don't get it.

Not all aftermarket parts are bad. Many of them are made by the same manufacturer as OEM, they just don't have the OEM label on them. Thats why I said there is likely some happy medium where its a quality aftermarket part and maybe you can get the mounts for $300.

I wouldn't use garbage parts on any car because you're just asking for trouble,
I'm not throwing a used axle or reman engine in the back of my 47k mile sequoia or filling it with bags of lawn care items lol!

That's the Jeeps job.......I don't care if something makes it though the moving blanket and stains the cargo area in that car. Same story for being able to avoid keeping it shiny and perfect outside and constantly keeping it away from salt and rain. It's literally used as a commercial work truck aside from towing, it's cheap and doesn't cost me much so it sticks around. It also pulls loaner duty sometimes

EDIT: I saw the above posts and I'll admit I've never actually owned a true beater, my "beater" is actually in perfect function with everything working and doesn't look like it's destroyed at all. Plus I don't drive it unless I need it for something

Certainly nothing wrong with that, but I'd rather drive my nice car all the time.

Well sure, but what do you choose to drive every day? Having a "beater" just for specific things like that is different than having a cheaper car you drive every day vs driving your nice car.

If I run to the grocery store, I take my nice car lol

lol. So here’s a question? Do you use OEM parts, if you can find them? If you can find them I bet they would be very very cheap

Would definitely be interesting to know. I’m sure some parts are still made. But other parts are remanufactured or refurbished. I guess the goal of a vehicle like that, is to keep it as original as possible

Hmmm I can think of a reason but I don't know how close I am. I had a Dodge with a large V-8 and it was drinking $25-30 per week in gas going back and forth just to work and I'm thinking the Expedition would do worse maybe.
If funds were tight maybe he saving $100 month in gas commuting with the Corolla, I know that's what I'd do if funds were super duper tight.
The older Expeditions can drink the fuel like nobody's business. haha

You haven't truely lived until you've had a Bonifide aka "The Real Deal" beater that requires working on it as much as driving it just to keep it alive another week. Don't know what fun you're missing.

Good luck on that! lol
Met a guy who had 4 of these.
One ran and he was restoring it and the other 3 were in his back yard in varying Barn Find condition for donor parts while he restored it.

You should see the car I'm driving around now it's a massive rot box. Was completely neglected transmission is probably going to die soon ATF morphed into some kind of alien liquid I've never seen tranny fluid that bad. Car was free.
