Do not buy a Hyundai gas or a Hyundai EV. Both have “do not park in the garage” warnings.
Yeah, it's like every two months there's a major engine recall on a Hyundai or Kia for risk of fire. People love cars from that brand but they are junk.
Toyota will build and sell many EV's when the market calls for it. Not even 1% of vehicles on the road are electric. Currently there is not nearly enough infrastructure support for them but once that changes, expect Toyota to be a leader.
Besides, if Hyundai can't build an engine without it being recalled every two months due to a fire risk, what makes you think they can build a reliable, safe EV?

The Ioniq 5 has been on sale for over a year in South Korea and was their 1st ground up EV platform. Has about 250-300 miles of range and can charge from 10-80% in 18 minutes and does the 0-60 in less than 5s. No issues so far and seems like the battery platform is solid
Toyota is bringing its vaunted BZ4X with a 250 mile range, 10-80% in 56 minutes and does the 0-60 in 7s. Pathetic

It's not true that Hyundai's are unreliable. Toyota has had it's share of recalls, including the 2nd gen IS350 which I own which had two that were engine related. Yes Toyota/Lexus is more reliable as a brand, but Hyundai has caught up and even surpassed Toyota with way better tech and infotainment systems. I don't care about infotainment systems, but most buyers do.
I don't say this lightly as a Toyota/Lexus fanboy with over 25 years of owning almost nothing else (I strayed to Honda for one year in 2018 but came back) but Toyota blew it with EV'S. They are so far behind Hyundai it's sad. They are also behind Ford and GM, which is extremely sad. I'm sure once they fully commit they will make good ones, but they will be behind the competition. And what they are coming out with is a bit pathetic when compared to Hyundai and others. It pains me to say it, but it's the truth.

Toyota is extremely arrogant they will never accept not being the industry leader. That's why they shunned EVs it wasn't Toyota that pushed them into the mainstream Akio Toyoda can't be seen as a follower. Problem is it's pure fantasy to think Toyota can get in "at the right time" that is veiled way of saying the company is falling further and further behind. They have barely begun to secure material supply, build out battery factories, hire software engineers, pursue FSD and so many other things. Heck are they doing any of that?
I'm the same as you dyed in the wool Toyota nut. The company is in deep, deep trouble it just hasn't reached the boiling point yet.
