Lexus to Cancel ES?
Back to the beginning of the thread.
I was glad that Templin for once said something controversial
Lexus is stuck with the ES because it is a high volume model that appeals to/meets the needs of a large proportion of their customer base
The problem is the GS, a real RWD based luxury car is poorly positioned based on price and performance against the ES
I believe the GS will continue to have lagging sales and these may get worse once the Q50 hits the market followed by this CTS (which may also jeopardize the GS F if the GS F only has 450 hp from a mildly revised IS F motor)

I get your point, but this was a bad example. The C-class will be moving up in price and size shortly, letting the CLA take full grip on the low price bracket.
In any event, I agree that the ES is a good vehicle with its purpose. All I was really asking is if someone knew where this rumor came from.

It just sounds like silly talk to bash the ES, why the hell would Lexus or any company get rid of a best selling vehicle for 25 years is beyond common logic. To see people even rationalize it should be gone is funny. It is obvious the ES does well and will continue to do so even if all you bad asses on the internet like dissing it.

Let me repeat
The GS, in America, was only 800 units or so shy of its sales go.
Let me try this againfor those that assume the GS is selling poor as their brains can only see the months where the GS sells poor and not when it sold well
The GS was only around 800 units or so shy of its first year 24,000 sales goal.
Oh and guess what, in Japan the GS was the best selling Lexus in 2012.
Yes I know, the internet experts who bash the GS based on 1, 2 months of sales who likely never even drove the bloody car should be listened to. Not the facts, or gasp, owners of the car.

Please all of you continue how the GS is a failure and the ES needs to also be canceled.
Now i must beg the question:
Why not offer a smaller engine GS in ADDITION to the ES. Cannibalization of sales happens everywhere. But in some cases, the effect is so muted that overall brand sales will increase.
I see that as a good move, but Lexus, so far, is refusing to offer dinky engines in anything other than the CT.

ES will not be cancelled tomorrow, next year or in 5 years, it is best selling car Lexus has. In fact, Lexus sales being highest in past 5 years, nothing is getting cancelled but new models are coming up.

yeah, its discussion about made up rumor that people think is real. We might as well discuss if Lexus is going to be cancelled.

It makes absolutely no sense at all and should have been a good chuckle more than anything.
Agreed. I don't think that is going to happen either.
Depends on where you are. In may places, that is probably true, but AWD RX models are extremely popular in the Snow-Belt Great-Lakes, Northeast and Rocky-Mountain states (though in the Rockies, pickup trucks generally rule)

RX is still the overall vehicle volume leader for Lexus. Although with super strong ES sales so far in 2013, it's pretty close through the first 2 months.
Worldwide it is the best selling car, RX being best selling SUV :-).
I did some scouring of online blogs and someone was ranting about the same thing we are. He reached out to Todd Lassa from Motor Trend and got this quote:

The ES will not be cancelled any time soon. Re-named, maybe, but not cancelled. You see, Lexus understands that if they were to cancel it, potential buyers may not flock to the Avalon. No sir, Lexus/Toyota is fully aware of the excellent Azera and Lacross and would not be willing to take that gamble. Lexus, beyond a shadow of a doubt, needs the ES.
