Absolutely. Every state in the Union has its charms, and downsides. We have our problems, but personally the upside outweighs the downside for me. Now go away while I drink my $6 soy latte

put more simply, luck is where opportunity meets preparation. and waddya know, the more you prepare, the more opportunities present themselves. i freely admit i was lucky in many ways, but i did work hard and worked to get my knowledge/abilities above what i knew others to be. it’s also the adage - find something you love to do and it isn’t work. i disliked many things about working in a corp, and made mistakes, but it worked out.

i can’t really comment much on former ussr except i heard an enormous number of people were alcoholics which is terrible.

I simply stated my observation of the societal and economical reality in todays USA. So much misery, substance abuse, mental issues, homeless encampments everywhere, government corruption, and degeneracy that never existed in USSR.
being homeless on the streets of moscow you’d probably free to death. and i don’t believe those problems never existed in ussr!

Well, right....

But he's not a success just because he was in the right place at the right time lol.. Otherwise all the other $9 an hour employees would be executives too lol.

He never had any idea where it would take him at first, I think he was just motivated... But yes he chose a good company, for sure. I know what you're saying.

He moved down here for some $45,000 job which wasn't bad entry level manager money in 2012ish, for Knoxville at least at that time. Now $45k doesn't go that far in West Knoxville, at all.

We met about 6 months after her moved and to think a year and a half later we moved to LA on a $68,000 base salary (plus an ok bonus) and plus what I was bringing in at the time..... We made it fine, but just damn.

I wouldn't move back to LA period but for argument's sake, minimum 500k lol. And even then that's really not that much, for desirable LA County.

I would live in San Diego or Orange County if I were to live in CA again. I also love San Francisco but it needs to be cleaned up.

I'll never leave Knoxville again, however. It's just too great here, I love it. We both do. His whole family does, we wish everyone would move down here.

And another 20 cents today, to $5.90. That makes 72 cents in 6 days. Though I'd be surprised if it increases again on Sunday, so it'll likely remain at its +10 cents/day average.

You sound as if you were the only one that lived in California. I think you mentioned you lived in the bay area. Have you not noticed how SF and around changed over this past decade? You're denial or far from reality. Sure homelessness is everywhere in the US. But what's in California is no comparison. What's shown on youtube, social media, or your claimed kool aid is real. It's not fabricated. Where else can you see a homeless town? Where else can you see people pee/****/doing drugs on the streets or in front of your house? Where else can you see someone can break in your car/shop and cops do **** about it? Where else can you see a nationwide store had to close their shop because of theft? Tell us if those things don't exist in California.

No, boss. It's not trendy or funny. Lol. No doubt they have nice places and opportunities. Yeah they pushed, they gave incentives then... they took it back. And yes plastic bags are... wtf... the worse thing for me is having to sip your drink through a paper straw. But of course we don't need a straw and that's probably the last thing we need to worry about in California. Lol.

up here the Gov banned single use plastics in some aspects, the ban works well, no more small little plastic pieces that can't be recycled. No more large plastic food containers for take out etc. Plastic cutlery is gone and has been replaced by wooden spoons and forks...neatly wrapped in a paper package...all of it recyclable or biodegradable ... a 6 pack of beer no longer has the plastic rings that can ruin the lives of wildlife, it has been replaced with a cardboard topper. Happy to never see a plastic bag ever again The politicians up here tried to make it a political argument but a little bit of irony is that before the 1950/60s straws were made of paper, grocery bags were paper, the politicians always fail to mention that with the ban, there is no micro plastic or single use plastic everywhere.... recycling is a good thing. California is on the right track… we have drink straws made out of guava, hopefully California does as well

Lol that's why I can never take you seriously. You probably believe everywhere we step over homeless. I'll tell you what, I'll clear them out of my backyard before you visit 🤣

The homeless are only in big cities, unfortunately only the poor and middle class suffer.

Wealthy ppl live in suburbs and the ones that live in city, their kids go to private schools. In Manhattan, the luxury buildings all have private parks and amazing amenities.

It’s crazy to me to let a few people ruin the public spaces for everyone else especially small kids and teenagers.

I remember 1st visiting CA in 2006 - it was paradise. I went everywhere from Venice Beach to San Francisco. I still go back almost every year but many places in LA are terrible now. I have not been back to SF except to go the airport. Again if you’re in wealthy places, there is no impact but the ppl that need nice public places the most are the ones suffering and for what?!

BTW the population in NYC and Cali are decreasing that is with accounting for illegal immigrants coming in. Imagine a place like California losing people, how bad things have to be to leave paradise.

Hard work beats out good fortune 99.9% of the time.

You don’t just get promoted bec you’re lucky, you had to have put yourself there to be noticed and built relationships with senior executives etc.

If you own a business, you had to put your company in a position to take advantage of the opportunity to capitalize on that good fortune. It may have taken decades to reach that point.

People that have good fortune are ones that won the lottery. Lol

BTW the fact that all of us are in America is the greatest fortune because no other place gives you the same opportunity for success.
