At this point, I'll have to start buying ramen instead of fresh produce if I want to continue my V-8 driving habit.
Thankfully premium for me hasn't hit $5 locally as of today. I think I paid about $4.50 or so per gallon of 93 last time I filled up a few days ago. Both our X3 and the Vette take 91 or higher, of course.
i used to live in PA. beautiful state, but i knew i had to move. first it was to atlanta, then central florida. i'm now ready for the next adventure.

I would move to California if you can.
Heaven on Earth, just amazing place if you love driving beautiful roads.[/size]
But, you have to look at the good fortune that existed there too. He chose the right company, my guess is that company was in a growth phase, and he was in a position where he didn't need a college education to get in the door, or he took advantage of opportunities presented by that company to get that education.
I mean, he wouldn't be where he is if he weren't so damn smart. I definitely am not stupid but he runs circles around me and I've had a degree for 20 years. His brains and hard work and motivation are the reason he's so successful, not luck. Luck is winning the lottery or being born into money. I don't think choosing the right company had much to do with it--- most of my smart, hardworking friends have really really good high paying jobs too.
That's because, with the removal of tetraethyl lead from gasoline decades ago (which was a cheap and easy-to-make octane-producer), oil companies, today, have to use more expensive, lower-emission substances in the fuel to increase its octane. Yes, Ethanol is clean-burning and abundant, particularly in the Midwest where it can be distilled from corn, but the EPA itself only mandates a 10% concentration in gas (E10), and, with a few exceptions where some engines can run on E85 (85% Ethanol), most production-engines in the U.S. are limited to E10-E15 without possible engine-damage and voiding the warranty. So, oil companies have little choice but to mark premium-grade up by a higher percentage than back in the old leaded days.

I got my Lexus IS in 2007, and back then, the spread between each grade was $.10 - $.15 per upgrade. You're saying that in 2007, there was still lead in gasoline????
Haha listen, I was a lazy *** second gen American born to an American mom and immigrant dad, all schoorl ever taught me was it was a place to party and get *****...or at least try to . Most of my friends from back then are dead from overdoses or worse. Thankfully I woke up as an adult, got my life together and built my everything up, with a lot of pushing from my brother in law. If it wasn't for him, I would probably be another loser living off of others. But also kudos to you and your spouse who also has that rare drive 👍
Don't sell yourself short my friend!!!!
I had the drive but then had all these insane back problems and like I said, would have lost any decent career. **** has been just insane the last 6 years. At least I made it out of a damn good College.
And besides he is so freakin' busy it's better I'm here so run errands and take care of the house (as well as I can right now, still in recovery) etc etc.
Sometimes he works from 7a to midnight it's just absurd. It's temporary but still.

No. I'm saying that, as emissions-regs have tightened over the years, and new regulations have also mandated different summer and winter-blends, oil companies have had to find new substances to use in the refineries, adding to the cost of the refining itself. Also, different companies might have different pricing-spreads, depending on their own costs and what profit-margins they are willing to accept.
btw the beef tallow fries steak and shake sells today is fabulous
I mean it’s oil related right 🤣
Speaking of beef tallow, some people are making their own homemade diesel-fuel out of used cooking-oil, and storing it in their own tanks at home. This has led to what are (IMO) abuses by governments by prosecuting them for tax-evasion on the homemade fuel.

Haha you're making me hungry . After losing more than 80 lbs (started at 260 lbs Nov 2024, currently 174 lbs as of this morning) fries and shakes are off the menu. I'll take the steak though

Thank you 👍I've worked my a* off to be where I am today, I rolled up my sleeves and got in the mud to do it, but I still couldn't have done it without help. Let's just say I needed training wheels, after they were taken off I was full speed ahead and everything I built was on my own. I also owe a lot of it to my spouse, I did it for her and my kids. Your spouse sounds like someone who doesn't let the world get in his way, that's ambition I can only respect
