This is great. I think she would probably let it drive...I would probably want to drive. (old skool snowdriving brain)
I would definitely be getting a winter set a wheels and tires for it.
It kinda hurts a bit that Toyota/Lexus doesn't have this tech. Like if I could get all this in a RX.
Without f'ing question I'd be handing money over!
The good thing about FSD is, you turn it on when you want it to drive for you, and don't turn it on when You want to drive. Also because it's subscription based, you can subscribe when you want to use it like trips, then cancel.
If I had a long commute, I would definitely subscribe to it, as to me it's worth the $99
Oooo, ya got me... I did connect the BT when the sales guy was showing me the phone app demo. I assumed that when I plugged in it to the USB-C was then connecting everything. So the Usb was charging my phone and the ONLY way to listen from my phone is via Bluetooth.
There's no 3.5mm right? I'm assuming some 3.5mm to USB-C is probably available? So In the end. "The source" is the reason the bass was muddy and mid/highs were splashy to me. "The source" was the reason the road noise through the doors and rear was so noticeable.
In the end, Unless the Lucid is that much more amazing for that much much higher price. We're probably going with the Y or X. The FSD being the big seller here.
After researching more about the things that DO annoy me with the Y. I'm finding they annoy others as well...and there are solutions.
All the aftermarket cluster screens I can use for the display. Along with the ability to yank and Dynamat the panels and replace all those speakers.
Nice Ceramic window tint, sound proofing, and speakers with baffles behind and I'm betting I can make it sound way better.
Be careful man. If you bring up the road noise issues and subpar quality the cultists will defend it to the death!

More than likely.

No, that would be a volume control issue.
As I stated before, the 3 and Y are not luxury vehicles. They don't use the highest quality sound deadening materials. They are mass produced appliances meant to serve the task of getting you from point A to point B using electricity only. I find our Y very comfortable and not excessively noisy. YMMV
It seems apparent to me that you'll regret the purchase. You should instead hurry and find a Model X, as that's more inline with what you value.
LOL....Reeeeaally? I swear there's a Mechanic joke in there.

Or...I could do what so many others Y owners on various Tesla forums are doing. Sound proofing and upgrading the speakers.
We will probably do the 2026 Model Y Performance AWD, I will add a whole 25lb if dynamat and closed cell foam. So the added weight is nothing.
At first I really did think I was just being my normal picky self with the Y speakers and overall sound. But after reading all I read today, It was never my line-in/source.
Its 100% the car. The design. I'm glad there are folks here that think is awesome. I think that when you make a vehicle that has all this crazy great tech. Drives by itself perfectly avoiding the dumb Fs that drive like idiots on the highway.
easily hitting f'ing Ferrari speeds...Silently. You don't skimp out on the sound proofing and audio.
I'm not sure what your options were on a test drive, but best is FLAC on a memory stick. Followed by some of the built-in apps like TIDAL, Amazon Music and even Spotify.
You're clearly not comparing $50k factory systems to the Y, so I'm done with the rest of your comments.
I mean...I have heard lots of praise for Tesla's audio system...I think your comment might be the first negative thing I have heard. I think you're not realizing how much BT is compressing the audio. If you heard it with lossless audio from a built in source or FLAC files on a stick like Mike said I bet you it would sound a lot better.
Sound deadening, its as quiet as any other $50k car. Camry/Lexus ES level.
Bluetooth is not a drastic step down in fidelity, yes it's there but after a minute or two it won't bother you. Blind back to back test you'll have trouble picking out FLAC vs BT.

Its absolutely night and day in my car. Same with wireless CarPlay vs the built in streaming.

Drastic enough to not be the source one uses to evaluate the audio quality of a Tesla. Kind of like having a steak at Outback and expecting to taste like one at Gibsons.
Anyway, this thread has drifted way off track. From what I've experienced, FSD doesn't care what you use for a source. It's unbiased and works just as well listening to a 64kbps MP3 or a lossless FLAC file. It's one of the main reasons we still love our Y.

LOL... Whatever. Sorry I think the audio system sucks.
I'm sure its all me. The fact Focal just "happened' to go through an entire design of speakers based around that specific car.... Purely coincidental.

Just google it, you will find what I found. Lots of forum posts of people complaining and then the solutions i've mentioned.
I'll totally throw tracks on a USB and try it again. Bit even asked what size wheels and such on it, as that too can cause excessive road noise.
I truly apologize to all offended by my disappointment in speakers and sound proofing. Please forgive me and my unrealistic expectations of a car that f'ing drove itself from practically downtown Chicago to Wilmette in traffic.

Do you have the Burmester system. Because that is like Volvo's B&W, Acura's Krell, and Audi's B&O... and I would expect input to be a "Thing" in those types.

Link I posed in one of the posts above. https://www.focal.com/focal-inside/b...-y#FITESLACO10
Focal designed/tuned a set of their speakers for the Tesla. Like specifically branded/marketed for use as replacements in the Tesla. Made Youtube videos for self install.
Same with Alpine. These guys do not go that far into a specific car unless their is a demand for it.
I am glad for it. She wants the car... i want to take advantage of it.

Yes, it’s the basic Burnester though not the 4D upgrade.
