Tesla Full Self Driving Thread
I just never want a sales person near me until the end. Which is why whenever I'm driving any car, I'm like... I'm going to drive it for a while. I will not be back anytime soon. Take my insurance info...whatever you need.
But don't expect me back for a while. Tesla seemed fine with it and from what you all are saying its the norm.
Lucid however was like. Yeah, you get 30 mins by yourself.

tesla doesn't do ride alongs typically, although when i did my last test drive the guy said do you mind if i take you around the block with fsd to show how that all works, then you can take it out by yourself? i said sure, and that helped a lot to have a better idea of what to do when i took it out by myself. i was simply dumbfounded that the car would drive to the local supermarket, find a parking spot, and park.
oh and today was fun... had to take someone to do some errands and appointments. probably about 90mi. total. i think i drove myself about 50 yards of it.
my passenger is physically weak/unstable, so after lunch, i simply pressed 'summon' on my phone for the car to come from its parking spot right to where we were standing. he was amazed.
he has a tesla and signed up for fsd right when we got back to his place.

What a story to tell. Morons.
I should post my Tesla story from when the model S debuted. I directed and produced this video for Vossen where we showed the process of test driving with one of their people when they did that. Showed Tesla in a super positive light. Video goes viral, Tesla emails us basically complaining blah blah.

You should post it for sure
You can’t because the morons asked to take it down. After a month of arguing and realizing they were clueless about how youtube works and marketing we did. At SEMA later that year we spoke to another Tesla employee who stopped by our booth. We told him the story and he was shocked. Basically said that type of stuff was so helpful because they had zero marketing budget.
Obviously a beautiful car with 22” wheels.
Pretty sure this was the car we shot as the twin. We also realized the fitment for Tesla and Lexus sedans was identical.

I think you are going to enjoy the Tesla, and if it appeals to you, you will enjoy the buying process, which you can do in 10 minutes on your phone. No sales people, no up selling, you see what you are going pay, all the numbers are there. Just keep in mind it's a an appliance, and a good one IMHO.

I was listening to a speech (motivational), and the speaker was talking about being on "autopilot", meaning going about our lives like zombies. "Don't let the car drive you, you drive the car, otherwise you lose situational awareness". He wasn't talking about FSD, but I realized how true that statement was. Doesn't mean I'm giving up FSD, but just something to think about
Ok, that was my philosophical grain of wisdom for the week

We drove it... The self driving feature WAS the coolest part of the car. It didn't freak out once and the locals were their usual. Changing lanes less than a car length in front of me. Nailing the brakes when someone does it front of them causing the chain reaction back up. Felt like it was predicting the car that was next to it was going to do something stupid. (I'm sure it wasn't and was in my head) Then I started being paranoid that it was watching me, watch the other cars, and started making corrections because of what I was seeing.
I liked the gradual increase decrease in speed that would be impossible with gas motors. I was annoyed with the Logitech steering feel...until I found the setting to make it feel more like a car. That helped. I did a launch... that was cool. reminded me of when my 450H would launch, no gear change push from the back. (the jeep has that E launch feel, but there's still a 8speed trans)
I f'ing hate that screen placement though. How long does it take to get use to having to look to the center all the time for info?
I think I won't ever drive it enough to get use to it, and would be annoyed when I do. But as a Noob just getting in and driving it, along with letting "It" drive. I have to say it's pretty cool and impressive. It is intuitive too... I didn't have much of a problem finding stuff. Real test would be to let my mom drive it and have her figure it out.
Being an audiophile. The stereo system...sounded like it was done by 80s Bose engineers with hearing loss. I'll give all you Tesla fan-boys props after driving it for a while. The performance and what it is when you think about it. Is pretty impressive. The price, the speed, the economy, and comfort. Great car. Anyone tells me their Tesla stereo is "amazing" needs to have their ears checked...or has never heard a good audio system before.
Now for the Lucid!

Tesla's premium audio is pretty good, and it's generally well-reviewed and regarded. Did you play around with it? Possible someone before you had adjusted the settings? Also, depending upon what you drove, the Model Y Standard doesn't have premium audio.

Not a "glowing" review but it was honest.
Might have to go more upscale to meet expectations.
Will Lucid cut it?
Maybe BMW or other?

I would also note that the idiot you can hear from 10 cars away with their bass cranked up so high that parts are falling of their car also considers themselves to be an audiophile. It's a highly-imprecise and largely self-anointed label.
Having auditioned systems that cost over $10,000 to me they sounded dreadful, speakers everywhere and the owner constantly bragging about moar watts. But that's what some people consider audiophile worthy sound.
