Like most things audio, **** in equals **** out. What was your reference source?

tesla audio is bass heavy and i find the ‘sub’ setting can make it way too overpowering.
but it does sound very good with a simple bit of eq tweaking.

LOL... I Knew I shouldn't have said anything about the stereo.

Maybe that was it, I don't know what version of system it had. But right off, I wanted more sound proofing in the doors and I couldn't hear separation from mids to highs. Bass was muddy. And I'm not talking about some Mumble rap bass BS. I'm talking rock kick drum bass. I'm talking Mastered albums that I have listened to so many times I know exactly how the notes should sound. I did mess with the levels a bit. It wasn't it.

Of course...Except it's what I did/do for a living. I manage people now, Designers, A/V system programmers and engineers. I use to design audio systems and was a purchaser of audio crap up until recent.
I am very much apart of the Consumer and Pro Audio world career wise and my company does NOT keep me around for my "winning personality".

I will admit I am very picky. I am biased with how things should sound. I have companies that agree and like how I make stuff sound so... I'm not some clown with 1000watts going to 2 12 in subs in a band-pass box vibrating his eyeballs out of his head.
There are systems that people think are amazing (cough, cough.... Bose, Sonos,) that I think sound **** poor for the price of them.
I am NOT the intended ears car companies design audio systems for!

Source LOL? What besides a phone, connected via USB or BT do you think I would use? (Where can i plug in my Reel to Reel?)
I was using my Iphone 16pmax. USB-C connection. Most all car audio systems are designed for the Bluetooth/USB connections of drivers phones. Designed for the streaming music and the compression of.

I have an Astell & Kern that's a few years old. I use to use it for fine tuning DSPs at work... I don't normally bring it on test drives being that most cars no longer have TRS/3.5mm balanced inputs.

End of the day. I thought it sounded sub par when you consider the rest of the car. I expected more after all the other cool **** the car did.
The only things I didn't like. The center tablet view and the Stereo.
But... I can and would sound proof what I can, Replace speakers. Add speakers.

No one is questioning your audio bona fides, just pointing out that generally speaking Tesla premium audio is extremely well-regarded and generally held out to be among the better OEM factory systems. There is a lower-grade system available, so it does lead to questions about which system you actually auditioned And no one is claiming that any Tesla system is going to win any prizes at SEMA or Slamology, but they are solid, better than most OEM systems IMO, and should not have left you disappointed. So something is off.

So we do have a question for the Auto drive Tesla people in Heavy rain and snow.
at what point does the autodrive system not drive for you.

Today was 45 and clear. so it was fine...How is it in a snow storm, or after all the sensors/cams get covered in snow/salt/ice.
I'm assuming it just says the FSD is unavailable right?
How does it do with construction areas? lanes that are re-taped jutting left to right, cones, barriers, etc...

It make sense that it would make the driver take over to navigate.

sorry guys, this is the Tesla self driving thread. maybe move this audio convo to the General Tesla thread.

As for FSD, an update came out on Friday and it seemed to make it worse for us. It seemingly hesitates more on lane changing, and takes curves at a slower speed. I think they also made the freeway following distances longer.

The one I drove today did leave more room between cars on the highway than I would have, but when people changed lanes right in front of me and the car was like..."whatever" and slowed down.
As far as curves. That is where I was impressed. It took a few faster than I would have.

Well, you could've told us you were an audio expert. Lol

Then we wouldn't embarasses ourselves trying to "learn" you. Haha 😂

If you need us to drop more songs so you can dial in your EQ, just let us know.
Spoiler

Just in case(last one, I promise).

No, you were not using your phone's USB-C connection, as that method is not supported. You were using Bluetooth which is what I thought.
  • Bluetooth Limitations: Tesla's Bluetooth only supports SBC and AAC codecs, which lowers quality compared to using the built-in apps.
Thanks for confirming.

does just fine with tape, cones, lane closings, detours, etc.

and does great in blizzards too.

Source makes a difference. In my Mercedes, audio streamed through the car's built in connection to Apple Music/Tidal etc sounds dramatically better than anything over CarPlay wireless or wired...its night and day.

Oooo, ya got me... I did connect the BT when the sales guy was showing me the phone app demo. I assumed that when I plugged in it to the USB-C was then connecting everything. So the Usb was charging my phone and the ONLY way to listen from my phone is via Bluetooth.
There's no 3.5mm right? I'm assuming some 3.5mm to USB-C is probably available? So In the end. "The source" is the reason the bass was muddy and mid/highs were splashy to me. "The source" was the reason the road noise through the doors and rear was so noticeable.

Wonder why companies like Focal and Alpine make tuned speaker replacement kits for the Model Y?
https://www.focal.com/focal-inside/b...-y#FITESLACO10
https://www.alpine-usa.com/products/tesla
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-27VN4X...kaAqg1EALw_wcB

Check out the pre-cut sound deadening material here...Almost like there's a market to reduce the noise in the cabin.
https://store.dynamat.com/collection...id=16641048377

In the end, Unless the Lucid is that much more amazing for that much much higher price. We're probably going with the Y or X. The FSD being the big seller here.
After researching more about the things that DO annoy me with the Y. I'm finding they annoy others as well...and there are solutions.
All the aftermarket cluster screens I can use for the display. Along with the ability to yank and Dynamat the panels and replace all those speakers.
Nice Ceramic window tint, sound proofing, and speakers with baffles behind and I'm betting I can make it sound way better.

This is great. I think she would probably let it drive...I would probably want to drive. (old skool snowdriving brain)
I would definitely be getting a winter set a wheels and tires for it.

It kinda hurts a bit that Toyota/Lexus doesn't have this tech. Like if I could get all this in a RX.
Without f'ing question I'd be handing money over!
