FSD has become a wiz at getting around slower traffic. This morning coming to work it made it's way around slower cars, quickly and safely. Because it can see ahead, it looks for gaps between cars it can take advantage of. Success rate seems to be about 98 percent as occasionally it will make an unnecessary lane change that doesn't gain it any ground, but I'll take 98 percent.
I'm just amazed how good it is. Mad Max mode which I mostly use is a bit on the aggressive side as it one time cut around a Sheriff car (didn't do anything illegal), but thankfully you can dial it down. Once this period expires, I won't be renewing it until my next trip, but if it was something like $50 a month as Pat pointed out, I would probably be a subscriber
The only issue with FSD is that I get so bored I start texting or doing things I shouldn't be doing while driving. The flip side is it is still probably safer than me actually driving.

I actually do the same thing, I sometimes send and read emails. Yesterday I was listing to a YouTube live stream and was just laying back not paying attention...but FSD is so good that I'm not worried because I would likely be normally distracted where the car is paying attention to everything around it. My worry is people will forget how to drive, but if all cars become autonomous than accidents would probably drop significantly

I recently test drove the latest Tesla Model Y, and being the tech nerd that I am, I had to try out Grok AI.
Navigation experience - Overall, navigation was a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes it worked fine, and other times it struggled depending on how I phrased the destination. That could be on me—I may not always speak clearly—but there were cases where it simply wouldn’t recognize the street name properly. In those situations, I had to manually enter or dictate the full address. So usable, but not consistently reliable yet.
The more interesting (and unexpected) part happened right after I got into the car and spoke to it and gave it my destination (in English ofcourse). My wife then got into the car while talking on the phone with her sister—in Urdu.
Grok was still active, and it apparently assumed my wife was speaking to it. It immediately started responding to her in the language she was speaking to her sister. Both of us were surprised, especially my wife, since this was her first exposure to it. She was pleasantly surprised at first and started playing around with it.
The issue was that once she wanted to continue her phone conversation and stop interacting with Grok, every time she spoke, Grok kept responding. At that point it became annoying. I had to figure out how to shut it up, and eventually found the mute button, which solved the problem.
What I found particularly interesting is that even though I initially interacted with Grok in English, it responded to my wife in Urdu when it heard her speaking Urdu. That part was genuinely impressive—and also a bit funny—given the context.
Overall takeaway Grok is interesting and shows promise, especially with language detection, but the lack of clear speaker awareness makes it awkward when you have more than one person in the car, especially if someone is on a phone call. Unless I’m driving alone, muting it seems like the safest default for now.
Curious how others are handling this. Do you mute Grok by default when passengers are in the car, or is there a better way I’m missing?

Just hit the speak button again and that shuts off Grok

No I read that, but you don't need to mute it, you hit the voice command button on the steering wheel and that shuts Grok off. Unless that's what you meant

you can also just swipe the grok box down and it shuts off.
This morning a friend of mine wanted to go on a morning hike, so we headed over to Alum Rock Park, which many in the Bay Area are familiar with for it's hiking and scenic beauty. I let FSD do the driving, and it slowed down for every speed bump! My friend was amazed at how it drove the winding roads, and I think I sold him on EV's with putting my foot down and giving him a taste of instant torque . Nope, it never got old 👍Our reward at the end of the hike? A stunning view of the SF Bay Area

I admit, I was one of those. But I would classify myself at the time as a doubter, not hater. Ignorance is bliss
As far as FSD, I've been driving on the latest version since Thursday, and it seems Mad Max mode got more aggressive. Way more aggressive. I sometimes have to tone it down to 'Hurry' mode because of the way it keeps making it's way around traffic. Does not like to be behind slow cars
