^^ Basically this ^^ It will kick in during peak times when our electricity provider charges nearly .70 cents a kWh and pays pennies for solar power sent back to the grid. Instead of power I've generated going back to the grid, it will be stored in the batteries for later use. Also, it can power my house in case of a power outage. At night it will power my house and will be able to charge one of my cars
NVEnergy is implementing a new billing scheme to crack down on people using solar.
Basically they're going to start measuring the 15 minutes of your day with the highest usage, multiplying that by 4 to get a full hour, and then multiplying that by a daily demand rate. This will be done every day and added up on your bill as a demand charge. It's intended to claw back money they lost when people started installing solar.
It'll also bite EV owners pretty hard, which given our already high electricity rates and the expiration of the federal tax credit, will likely put a damper on EV sales here.
Should be, but is not. That's why I got the batteries, I don't want those bastards to get any of my over generated electricity, which they only pay something like .02 to .09 cents per kWh

They already do that here with business accounts, solar or no solar. Our office in San Jose, the bill was $50k in September due to the "highest usage" scheme
Kind of glad I no longer have our Ioniq 5. This would be the fourth recall it's had. I believe this one is for a software update for the HV battery, which has to be done by the dealership

Seems they are the crowned champs of recalls.
We have a whole thread on it. Haha 😁 🍿
Our dear Governor and the public utilities commission are in straight in the pockets of PG&E. They recently voted on a bill to completely invalidate our solar contracts which would have made my solar pointless. It was major backlash against the state legislators that narrowly prevented it from going through. Had it gone through, you would have seen the closest thing to a civil war you've ever seen. From my cold dead hands

amirza’s ioniq was older than mine (a year maybe). i think i’ve had 2 recalls (both software i think). not the end of the world and i get to look at new cars in the showroom and the genesis dealer across the street.

Where did you learn to spin like that? Is Jill teaching a course? 🤣🤣
a tesla 13.6kWh battery that can get charged from grid or solar, and then power some or all of the house when needed.
my system will use another brand (ex tesla engineers) called franklinwh. slightly bigger capacity (15kwh), but a lot of smarts on their 'controller'. i'm getting 3 of those.
Our daughter and son-in-law use FranklinWH batteries for solar storage, and they are very happy with them. I did not realize that these guys were former Tesla engineers.
