Well, we have three EV's, so can't plug in every night unless it happens to be open that night

I've been driving EV's long enough where range anxiety no longer exists. I once had only 38 percent SoC on our Model Y, I drove first to San Ramon (from San Jose) to pay condolences to friends who's relative passed away, then to Berkley. On the way back home, made a 10 minute stop in Oakland and got home with around 14 percent SoC. Got home, plugged in, and the car was ready to take me to work in the morning
I’m sorry when you’re busy running around, range is an issue especially when there isn’t a charging station on every corner. I used to have an Ego mower and it gave me range anxiety. 🤣

I’ve driven 40 miles so far today and about to make a 70 mile run in my truck (it has 30ish DTE). Then later today I have another 40 mile drive later today (I’ll hop back in my car).

I’ve been in 3 different vehicles today.

This doesn’t include fact I need to swing by the auction at some point today if time permits.

When I had my PHEV I used to throw it on a charger everytime I arrived back at home and carried a level 1 charger with me if I planned on stopping somewhere for good amount of time and there was a plug close by.

When you have 300 miles of available range every morning, even for you range anxiety shouldn't be a real thing. 40+70+40 is 150. 150 miles left. You hate getting gas so having it charge while it sits there parked at night should be ideal.

You certainly CAN easily have an EV, you just don't want one...which is fine.

I was about to say that unless BayeauxLex is considering an older EV, like an ancient Nissan Leaf, a total of 40+70+40 miles is not range anxiety in a modern EV. Period

Not this time, but I have done it in the Lightning and it's super easy because of access to Tesla superchargers. Just takes two short stops, so pretty similar to if you were in an ICE vehicle, and you get a lot of the time back because you can take the EV into the HOV lanes even as a single rider and there are lot of HOV lanes in SoCal once you get over the Grapevine.

And yes it would take forever to charge my 131 kWh Lightning battery at 110v.... If you were to go from 0% to 100% at with 110v and 15 amps it would take the best part of 88 hours assuming a 10% charging loss... But that's obviously an extreme edge case. You could add an average day commute overnight, even at 110v. The same 0% to 100% charge could be as fast as 7.5 hours if you use the Ford Pro Charger at 80 amps (my Lightning can L2 charge at 19.2 KW if you have a 100amp circuit). I generally charge mine at lower speeds.

Absolutely. For most people most of the time, range anxiety is a thing of the past.

The only concern I have about an EV is when traveling to rural areas, day to day life I would never use the battery up.

When you live in a rural area, range anxiety plays a factor. I live in a rural area.

I had to use my truck today as well so let’s say I have an EV truck. Ok I tow a 8k enclosed trailer several times a year 300-700 miles one way, insert range anxiety. I don’t think I would like to drop my trailer and pull into a charger for 30+ minutes just to make it to the next charger station hopefully within 100 miles and repeat the process until I reach my destination.

Or is your suggestion I get an EV car and keep my gas truck? 4 tracks I travel to I can drag my trailer from home to the track without stopping to refuel, letting alone unhitching to refuel. I’ve seen 1 maaaaybe 2 chargers at the tracks I’ve been to. I’ve never seen anyone use it so if it’s functional I’m not sure. Unless I use my gas generator that’s powering my trailer to charge my EV truck.

Now what would you guys do? My truck has a 38 gallon tank and I LOVE IT!! I use all 38 gallons of it.

I stopped by the auction today so today’s total was around 168 miles spread between 3 vehicles.

An EV car would totally come in handy but idk what I would give up for it.

But look at the mileage you're driving, and the fact that when at home you can charge to 100% overnight. Living in a rural area wouldn't bother me either, because I can charge at home. When I TRAVEL to a rural area I don't have a home base where I can charge...

You say all the time you drive cars with 30 miles to empty 70 miles and run your gas tanks down to drops. I don't think range anxiety is an issue...you just don't want an EV...which again is fine.

You have multiple cars. If I was towing no way I would get an EV truck. But all your other cars could certainly be EV and you would be fine.

Spread between 3 vehicles so definately no cause for EV range anxiety

The Prius, no doubt lol. A Model.3 or an Ioniq 5 or an EV6 or something like that would be a huge upgrade.

i live in a rural area. non-issue for me. but then i'm not towing houses. 🤣

given your use case there, yeah sure, keep the monster ice truck. but you have several other vehicles, and given your prior enthusiasm for rav prime phev, i think i speak for several here who think you'd LOVE an ev. would it do everything for you? no, but that's ok. i know my ioniq 5 gets about 250mi. of range on the highway, and i know my lc500 is probably closer to 400mi. but i'll still take the ev because highway driving in the lc isn't that enjoyable to me and obviously still costs many times more than the ev.

ok, but even 168 on one ev is no problem.

as much as you put ev's down, and cite worst case scenarios, i still think you'd be really into it if you got one.

My turn to give him a hard time Unless you have some compelling reason to hold on to your Rav4, which by your admission you like to drive in EV mode (and plug into 120v to keep EV mode going), an EV like a base Model 3 rwd is a way better option and better driving experience. You can easily do 100 mile trips, get home and plug back in. You already have other cars for your longer trips, and your truck for towing.
Have I ever steered you wrong? Didn't I push you to get into the X7? Trust me brother

Prius believe it or not would be one of the last to leave. Can’t get rid of my beater. $20-$25 to drive 500+ miles.

I’m not sure what EV I would get.Something with CarPlay. I have no plans of getting rid of my Level 2 charger so we’ll see what the future holds. Maybe something will pop up at one of the auctions.
