Whats the range on the Rivian and how’s the charging infrastructure where you guys travel to mostly? Or you would take your car on trips?
350-370 miles of range, they can use Tesla chargers so charging is not an issue.

Yeah my kids turn 10 tomorrow so no issue with boosters, but the lack of captains chairs is an issue for the dog...
@BayeauxLex My wife, daughter and I just cleaned out our hallway closet. There was an old Dell workstation from 2007 that's been sitting in there since 2016. When she wanted to throw it years back, I kept telling her I was building a server. Several times throughout the years she kept asking me to throw it, and I kept saying "I'm building a server". This time, that excuse didn't seem to fly. So there is some hoarder in me after all

Funny we still have a MacBook and HP windows computer from 2007-2008.
I use a windows laptop from 2013-2014 to tune my car. I really feel bad for my tuner when I give him remote access because the hour glass is constantly spinning. My wife bought me a new laptop for Christmas. Idk what kind it is because I haven’t opened it yet🫣. I told her the old windows computer still works but she said but it’s old. My rebuttal but it works.
Defrosted the car for 10 minutes. It needed a lot more. Fully encased in ice lol. I freed up the door handle before deciding to give it an extra 10 minutes

Drawback of that type of door handles. I hate it when it’s that little thin layer of ice
My MIL almost got trapped in her closet when one of her (overloaded) rods collapsed and partially buried her in clothes with the tags on. We told her that’s probably where we’re going to find her when she does kick the bucket
LOL

i would downsize mainly because i don't need the acreage. i live in a horse community (my ex had one). my house might end up with a bit less living space but a bigger garage.
as for your friends, yes, non-resident owners pay a lot more in property taxes. mine isn't that bad. coincidentally there's talk of the governor abolishing property taxes now!

for our 2 ev's we're saying about $350/mo. in gas alone. insurance is basically the same. taxes aere the same. so yeah, no brainer.

there's no federal taxes on cars that i'm aware of.

amirza i need to buy you a calculator.
1.5 x 2.5 = $3.75 / week
x 52 / 12 = $16.25 / month

yikes - anything that i can't run CURRENT operating system versions is tossed (recycled) or given away. i also just refurbed two pc's from about 2020 (intel 10th gen dell xps towers running fine) and sold 'em.

it may still work but as your tuner sees, it's craptastically slow (and likely not running current o.s., or security fixes, etc). i'm not keen on WAITING for computers. even though i've switched to macs for personal which are stupid fast, i wasn't sorry to see the end of intel macs which were MUCH much slower.

The snow on the rock sliders ended up being a bigger issue. My ice scraper was in the car so I was just kicking at it until I could get to it. It was a fun morning
Overall about 1/4 of an inch across frunk and roof with a thinner layer over the rest of the trunk
how did you get those frozen door handles to pop out?
i'm no paint finish freak either, but trying to get so much ice off would have made me concerned about paint damage.
Strategic love taps ice wasn’t too thick on the doors so it wasn’t that bad. If I were a smarter person, I would’ve checked the passenger side which had significantly less ice build up and gone in that way. I’m PPF’d on the entire truck so not as concerned about paint issues. It survived getting through some tight spots on the trails without pinstripes so a little ice didn’t seem too bad
