General EV Conversation
Same.
Yeah I guess I’m in that boat where I’ve never done a road trip in a EV.
I went with my sister to pick out a new car which was 3.5hrs away. On the way there to my surprise we stopped 2x and I was going crazy after the 2nd stop. For some odd reason she didn’t fill up before we left and I met her at a gas station!! 🤯 After the 2nd stop I said let me drive as I felt the need to make up time.
So before deciding to purchase NX 350 F sport, we went to the Audi dealer to look at the Q5s and she also inquired about the e-tron. We wouldn’t have made it back home had she purchased the E-tron because at one point I was behind her going 95mph and she was well ahead of me. This was like around 11pm or so. This was prior to Tesla opening up their chargers to other brands.

And it will happen. Can't wait to see Pics of your new Plaid, or whatever you end up getting 👍
Remember you guys laughed at my wife’s coworker who ran out of battery in his EQS or whatever the Mercedes EV is on a road trip but like he said the charging stations it directed him to were not working. He bought a cheap A class or C class just to travel for work but now I’m guessing he can charge his Mercedes at Tesla chargers he may not have much need for his secondary car.
This part. I 100% understand the plug at night wake up fully charged. Makes sense. Easy peasy. The traveling part is where it gets tricky especially if you didn’t have a Tesla and had to rely on non Tesla SC’ers. Example I wanted to rent a non Tesla EV in Vegas but my friend advised me to stick with Tesla because they have chargers all over the place

Charging in Canada is terrible but we don't matter much the market here for EVs is small, plus for reasons we can't talk about it's going to get worse.
on this....
Will be years if the S gets a refresh at all. I think it will eventually be cancelled.

Why? Does it not sell well? IMO, this is the best looking car from Tesla.
edit - this is what Grok said
Based on the available information, it appears more likely that Tesla will opt for a refresh of the Model S rather than cancelling it. The historical pattern of updates, consumer expectation for continued innovation, and Tesla's strategy of keeping its vehicles competitive through technology and performance upgrades support this likelihood. However, the automotive industry is volatile, and Tesla's strategy could shift based on numerous factors including market reception, technological advancements, and strategic priorities. Thus, while a refresh seems more probable, cancellation cannot be entirely ruled out, especially if market dynamics shift dramatically.

As for charging anxiety, you can pretend it’s not a thing or it’s foolish all you want but as somebody who is on the verge of going EV, it’s very real.
My wife for instance wants an EV and she loves her PHEV Pacifica, I made the comment a couple days ago about how maybe we should get a Rivian when the time comes. She loves the Rivian but her first response was “we can’t go full EV, I can’t stop with the kids and the dog on a trip for all that time”. I pointed out to her she always stops at the Maryland house and lets everybody go to the bathroom and they have like 80 Tesla superchargers.
It’s just a different way of looking at travel and it’s something people have to get accustomed to if they want to make the change.
Although the Model S is an aging platform, Car and Driver gives it good reviews
VERDICT
The Model S has aged but it continues to deliver stunning performance and solid range, which keep it competitive with much newer rivals.

I would never roadtrip the Rivian if it didn't gain access to the Tesla network. EA stations top out at 4 plugs and most of them don't provide the marked power. I haven't used many but between a handful of EVGo and EA charging sessions, I never crossed 100kW charging
They keep forgetting that part
