Yep.....totally agree. And Lexus itself does what IMO is the best fake-leather in the industry....NuLuxe.
You need to feel the new material from BMW, much better than NuLuxe. I legitimately could not tell it wasn't leather.

Its not that, there are an increasing number of buyers who prefer an animal free interior regardless of cost. My wife for instance would much prefer no real leather in her car, and I hear that more and more. Thats only going to increase...
I am a HUGE proponent for real materials in fine cars, but even I would take that sensafin BMW material happily. I legitimately did not know it wasn't napa leather. In the GLS we are going to get, I am going to order MB Tex over leather, because its tougher and will stand up to the dog and the kids etc....and my wife was very happy when she heard she could drive a Mercedes without having killed multiple cows.
I think the interior has fallen victim to YouTubers who, in my opinion, have a poor sense of style advocating against wood steering wheels, shiny piano black accents, glimmering silver colored trim highlights and complimenting and contrasting interior colors and materials ( referring to the all black interior I saw in videos). Instead this TX interior looks extremely dull, drabby and monotonous.
Piano Black is awful--especially in high-touch areas--and no one can convince me otherwise.

I agree with the newer Sensafin (vs. the older Sensatec). I looked at a LCI X7 with the diamond patterned Sensafin and couldn’t believe how good it felt AND looked. I like the merino leather better and would choose it over the Sensafin but I would have no issue getting Sensafin if that is all that was offered.
The perforated leather on the wheel looks very nice. I bet it's a joy to touch.
Love how the center stack is angled toward the driver. Took a page out of BMW in a good way.
Climate control dials are a nice touch with the temps in the middle.
One thing I haven't liked about Toyota interiors is the flat buttons on the steering wheel. They just don't feel like anything.
Bolstered steering wheel, paddle shifters, and a 3-spoke wheel on a family CUV? Again, just like the TRD trim on an Avalon with body kits and tuned suspensions, I don't get it.
Blue back-lit gauges are a great change.
Hopefully there's a cover for the cup-holders like in the new GX.
Split-level arm rest is also wonderful. The interior is actually pretty neat looking and seems high quality. Lots of stitching everywhere and I'd be surprised if there's any hard plastics. Of course you can't feel anything through a screen.
Exterior wise, nothing to note really except that horrid front end and the ever-shrinking windows. Folks, it's pretty safe to say that between the spindle grille and this new generation of failure, Lexus has had the worst grille designs over the last 10 years. Hands down.
