Lexus TX
Very true.
I used to dump my vehicles into intersections, T-junctions, and roundabouts.
Hence, I prized RWD and double wishbone suspension to keep the tires at right angles to the road surface to maximize grip.
Nowadays, lucky for TMC, I am no longer interested in all that.
However, I still like the light weight steering wheel, with no self-centering and no torque steer, and the double wishbone suspension that grips and grips, despite body roll.
Nothing against the TX being on the GH platform neccessarily, if could be on the GH platform and still be better looking and nicer inside and it would serve my needs well. I just don't understand spending $80,000 for something that really is no nicer than my Pacifica minivan or something like a high spec Palisade or Telluride. Material quality is the same, suspension design is the same, powertrain is very similar...all you have is the Lexus brand and that alone doesn't do it for me. If it at least had a super plush interior that felt way above what it was...what we have is very Toyota, fake wood trim, hard plastics below the beltline...very ordinary. 550+ could have 60 miles of EV range like the german PHEVs,...but its the same as my Pacifica PHEV which came out in 2017...

Yeah I like all the styling but the front.

What an "enthusiast" is varies. I am not a performance car enthusiast, I like premium excellent products that drive smoothly and quietly and are well appointed and attractive. I had two Lexus ESs remember. My latest Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid satisfies me as an enthusiast because its incredibly well designed and the hybrid powertrain makes it drive great, its also very luxurious and comfortable inside. As an Enthusiast I love the Palisade, and the Telluride...I like the MDX...
What I don't like about the TX is that it is not excellent in any way, I don't like how it looks inside or out, the engineering and the design don't do anything for me. What I want is Lexus to create a proper RWD layout 3 row crossover like an X7 or GLS, or if its going to be a transverse/mac strut Toyota clone at least look good and feel luxurious inside. To me, for as long as I waited for Lexus to make that vehicle its very disappointing. It feels like it was designed in about an hour after they were done with the Grand Highlander.
I would be honestly more excited and actually seriously consider (as in would) buy their new ultra small SUV but it's Europe only. Something like that for its size class would be actually nice to have vs the other options, I would happily daily that vs my Jeep.
My expectations would be very different for a car in that segment vs a TX and the price it competes at. The TX is just "eh" and exists, 100% a "me too" type of vehicle

Lexus doesnt need to compete with the GLS/X7. The 3rd row in the GLS/X7 are not exactly useable for adults with some form of legs. The 500h is more than powerful enough and if someone wants even more power, there's always the 550h. Even the base engine is more than fine. In terms of handling, it strikes a nice balance between handling and ride so lets not encourage them to mess that up.

Honestly I’m sure the TX drives a lot like an RX, it’s not that it’s bad it’s just very ordinary. My Pacifica drives very nicely too, very similarly to an RX. The TX is a transverse Mac strut 3 row SUV, honestly they all feel very similar.
What I want is something that’s on another level from a mainstream vehicle and the TX is not that.
As to “they don’t need to compete with the GLS or X7” no, they don’t if they are content being a rung below them as a luxury brand. Seeing that I want that sort of vehicle I wish they would compete at that level like they used to.
Sure it costs more to develop their GA-L, but then the pay-back is in quality of product and prestige.
Whereas right now, they are all-in to maximize profits with cheap FWD-based platforms.
