Here is what I did NOT order or desire:
- HUD (Would add $600, and I find this option a "windshield distraction”, when the display shows readily on the dashboard).
- Heated/cooled ventilated seats. (Would add $640).
- Sunroof/roof rails: I have only had a sunroof once in my lifetime, and honestly, never used the sunroof. (Would add $500).
- The upper tier "F Sport Performance Package (adds $4,770).
- Cold weather package (not really needed here in the Raleigh, NC area).
Here is what I DID order/add:
- Circuit Red NuLuxe with Scored Aluminum trim (I LOVE it!!).
- Navigation/Mark Levinson Premium Audio Package.
- Power rear door/hatch kick sensor.
- Panoramic View Monitor/Rear Cross-Traffic Braking/Power folding, Auto Dimming Outside Mirrors/Intuitive Parking Assist.
- Premium Triple-Beam LED Headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System and LED Tail lamps.
- Curt trailer hitch (The dealer said they could have installed the same hitch, but it would have been approximately $800 more than ordering the hitch from any online source. The 2019 Curt hitch fits the 2020 model perfectly.
- 7=pin wiring harness installed for my camper. Both are visible on the rear/back photo.
- All-weather interior mats and trunk mat (much cheaper from other vendors rather than purchase the Lexus brand).
I was very pleased with the coordination for this order, via the dealer's Inventory Manager who is responsible for custom-ordering Lexus models.

Hey guys, I would like some opinions. I will be purchasing my wife a 2020 RX by custom order (Luxury Trim, with most Options. MSRP $59,820). Lexus says they can build the car as configured but it will take 4 months for delivery. I could place the order during this "December to Remember" Event, make the best deal I can, pay some money down, and wait for 4 months to get it. Not a problem waiting. However I also don't have a problem waiting until May or June for delivery if I delay ordering until after the first of the new year.
What are the chances that I might get a better deal by placing my order in January or February 2020, instead of December 2019? My dealer seems not very enthusiastic about making a special order, even to get the sale, and he suspects I will pay in cash. He has given up trying to talk me into buying one off his lot, and now wants to try and locate one "nearly identical" to the one my wife has picked out. But I want to special order to get exactly what we want and not pay for features we don't want - even if we have to wait on delivery. Also, I suspect It might be easier to get exactly the build I order later in the model season.
Any advice?

I was going to recommend a sales rep that is giving me $500 under invoice plus any lexus incentives at time of delivery.

Hi all,
I bought a GS350 about 10 years ago and have loved it. I still drive it daily and I've never had an issue. It's time to find a new car for my growing family and we've figured out exactly what we want for a car. I honestly can't even remember the process for buying the GS; it's been so long.
We have no timeline, so I can wait. We are also planning to keep the car for at least 10 years or so and then either keeping it for ourselves or gifting it to family. Either way, the car stays with us for it's functional life, so I have no problem being patient to find exactly the car we want, since it'll be the one we use for years and years. Having said that, we do have some specific features/style/color we want. As such, it's been difficult to find one exactly the way we want.
As it stands, there are 2 options presenting themselves for the moment.
1) Factory order one with the specs we want. The salesperson we spoke to at the dealership says the price is msrp if we do so. Can anyone with more experience confirm this?
2) The other option is an RX coming in a month. I was told that it is in "A" phase, meaning it is still in build and they haven't decided where to ship it yet. I was told the price is negotiable. I've been trying to get a true car quote to get an idea what a fair price is. Any ideas where I can look to find a dealer inventory price so I can have a number to start with for my negotiation?
Thanks all!

Your situation is similar to mine, except this will be my first Lexus. This has been my experience into looking to making a special order of a 2020 RX from the factory.
I was told that any Lexus Dealerships around the mid-west area where I live who custom orders a new car for a customer - the price will be at MSRP. However, when I contacted dealers online in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa, via Consumer Reports, several responded by saying that based on my TrueCar pricing, I would receive $500 below
dealer invoice on a custom order, including any incentives or Lexus rebates available at the time of delivery. When I questioned the other dealers, who did have a set policy of MSRP, they also said they would meet the TrueCar pricing. Any further negotiation I might want to do would start from there.
There are several "Buyer's Services" out there, such as TrueCar, Edmunds, etc. who can get a discounted price, evidently even on a custom order. Around my neck of the woods, going thru CostCo is a favorite, especially if buying off a local dealer's lot - on any make or model. You see the MSRP, and the dealer will usually also provide the invoice, claiming that is what the vehicle cost him.
Accessing CostCoAuto.com - you can "build" your car and it will give you the MSRP as well as the dealer's cost for packages and options. Pricing on everything except accessories (such as trim items, floor mats, etc ) - items installed by the dealer.
FYI - Currently, ordering a Lexus (at least an RX) from the factory will take 4 months to deliver.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up TrueCar pricing on the 2020 RX350 that I recently purchased. The "TrueCar Market Average" price that they quoted was only 4.2% off MSRP and even with the additional $1500 Lexus cash back it would have been only 7% off MSRP. That is not a very good deal anymore now with lots of Rx's on dealer lots.
Using the "TrueCar dealer invoice" it would be about 6.5% off MSRP. If someone was offered a price of $500 off this "dealer invoice" but it included the Lexus Cash back, it would only again be 7% off MSRP which is not a very good deal now in December.
I bet most people will save considerable money buying an RX off a dealers lot (or at least one that a dealer can find somewhere else) and getting 10-12% off MSRP (which is doable) even if it had a few options one didn't want or need.

I think it is a matter of personal choice - whether you try to save some bucks by buying off the dealer's lot, choosing from what is there, or paying a bit more to custom order the car, with packages and options you choose, and not paying for features you don't want or need.
What I was trying to say is that it is possible to factory order a Lexus and not have to pay MSRP - at least from each of the dealerships I talked to. TrueCar (or Edmunds, Costco, etc) pricing can get you off the MSRP. The percentage of discount you can get after that depends on your negotiating skill (if you have not "signed up" already with a Car Buying Service. If you have, you, and the dealer, may be stuck with only the discount that Service allows. Dealers pay these Services to bring them customers. If they don't have to pay - you might get some of that money in negotiation).
As for Lexus Cash Back (or any Cash Rebate) - I think it should go right in your pocket, and not let the dealer use it for a "price reduction". It is your money, not his to use in the negotiation.
