Can anyone recommend a cheap windows laptop that wont mess up on me during the tune?
Cheap: I use a Windows 10 Thinkpad that doubles as my work laptop. The lower-end Thinkpads go for $700 or less. You don't need a really high spec'd one if you're just going to do flashing, since flashing in itself doesn't demand much from the machine. I imagine newer MS Excel versions to take up more system resources than OV's flashing app. I understand that there are other cheaper Windows laptops out there, but Thinkpads have a magnesium chassis, drain channels for accidental spills, and one of the industry's best keyboards, should you decide to keep it.
Cheaper: If you already have a MacBook, set up a dual boot system (NOT Virtual Machine) with BootCamp. This essentially turns your MB into a Windows machine. You can allocate 10GB, maybe even less, if flashing's all you plan to do with the Windows partition.
the diff between TTi and OV here, for the benefit of all:
TTi has better low- and mid- range grunt (until maybe 2500-3000 rpm) and snappier shifting. The transmission is more eager to downshift in auto mode, too.
OV has better pedal response and absolute top end power, helped in a big way by raising the rev limit, which TTi could never do. However, you can get pretty deep in the accelerator in auto mode, and it still wouldn't downshift.
Do u hav actual numbers of the comparison? Dyno tests? Quarter miles? 0-60s? They can be super helpful.
Hey Mathew, thanks for the hard-work and dedication.
I really appreciate the effort and time invested into this platform.
I hope this first revision has not burned you out of the 8AR due to the numerous hidden versions.
Look forward to tuning my Tacoma very soon.
The wait is over and the tune is here!
Just got back from flashing and a quick night drive.
I think this was everything that was promised and probably a little bit more.
Will update with another full/long-term review, but for now first impressions.
Throttle:
Man that throttle response is vastly improved.
Will have to relearn the pedal actuation, since it feels touchy even in Eco-mode but this is a welcomed change.
Car is absolutely ready to put down power the instant there is decent pedal change/request.
Transmission:
Jerkiness of the 8AT transmission is also improved when shifting from/to P/R <--> D.
Transmission is very eager to downshift when their is a sudden change in throttle.
Gear will stay relative to speed at low speeds and wont shift into 8th gear.
Performance:
From a dead-stop in Sport-mode TC is easily triggered, never seen this before on stock tune (unless it was raining).
Boost builds crazy fast and I was wowed when it went past the stock x1.5bar limit.
Makes me consider a catted-downpipe.
Very revy with the combination of quick downshifts.
Spirited driving is funner than ever and it is going to get me into trouble if left unchecked.
Currently back to stock box with FSport filter but want to reinstall the Injen intake to hear what this sounds like.
Economy/Longetivity:
Car seems more economical but too early to tell.
Learning mode is directly affecting the MPG numbers.
Keeping a close eye on KCLV going forward, many factors are playing against this value (mainly heat/summertime).
Heat does build very fast after 1-2 pulls, will need to be careful in the future.
Let us know if u test & pull out useful numbers, Dyno runs, 0-60s, quarter miles.
Glad to hear you guys are liking the update!
note, 2018+ cars have different code logic so 1.01G is slightly different than older cars.
If you have mods / FBO and want TCU and higher rev limit tuning, please submit an inquiry to do so (via logs / custom tuning) @ support@ovtune.zendesk.com
I do know one or two of you have an issue with the logger we are looking into this.

2018+ here, sent an email already. I'm still having trouble with throttle actuator. I have no control over throttle this time. Code sets when I shift into reverse/drive.

Thanks for the help. I'm going with the BootCamp option.
This new update is unbelievable(53N82). Wow. I don't need another super speeder ticket. Well done OV..I'm really tempted to get a downpipe now...
I thought this guy was exaggerating, but I share his sentiment now. Great work, OV.

I hardly find anybody posting these.
Sorry, I don't. I'm more concerned with how the tune meshes with my driving: throttle response, corner exits, that sort of thing. The top end is a lot better for sure, even with the factory rev limit - what more with the higher rev limit OV implemented in the NX tune.

Has anybody had issues with getting your system ID through the flashing software? The PC5 tool we’re supposed to use will not open for me but I followed all the instructions
@OrangeVirus Tuning If u r referring to the dyno results on ur website which shows 211 peak HP on wheels, then I assume that the car tested has no bolt ons & basically stock from bumber to bumber, isn't it?
I'm assuming that because many users suggested OV tuning definitely has bigger peak power than TTi, but Sheddy's dyno run of [TTi's Stage2 tune + intake + catless downpipe] showed 240 peak HP.. so.. what am I missing here?
Lastly, I'm looking to buy ur tune for my 2016 IS 200t, which I'll have some bolt-ons installed [intake + catless downpipe] & want to custom map for 100 octane fuel, could u do that for me? & how much peak HP do u estimate its gonna put down on wheels? like approximate number?

Nvm figured it out. If anyone has the same issue of the P5 thing not launching for your system ID make sure your firewall is not blocking it.
Hello all, I have a few questions about the jb4 software that I haven't been able to get answered...probably bc its buried in the other thread😉 When I select either map 0, 1 or 2, they all display the same numbers under 'user adjustment'. From what Ive read, map 0 disables jb4, map 1 is +4, and map 2 is +5psi. The numbers Im referring to are the boost numbers under 'map 6 boost', also why does it say map 6 if there is no map 6 yet for is200t? I made sure the software was up to date with bms, and I do notice performance differences when I adjust the boost. I changed the boost to +6 from 3k to 6k and noticed more low end torque but less top end hp, and it also made 0-60 worse! Changed it back to +5 and less low end but 6-60 improves. sorry if this is noob, Im new to tuning and this program.
