My 430 just roled over 1000 miles. I noticed when I start the car on the Nav unit a maintenance message appears. It gives me the phone number of the Lexus dealer so I can schedule an appointment. Does anyone know why I should need to have the car serviced so soon?
jboy, ur salesperson is sadly deficient in delivering your car. When you pick up your new Lex, the selling salesperson is supposed to go over ALL the functions of your new vehicle as well as tell you about the service performed free after 1k mile breakin period.
Mostly an oil change. Hope ur service dept better than ur sales dept.
There's a setting in the NAV to input when you want the car to remind you for service. I think it's under the Menu button and after a few presses you'll see it there. You can clear it out and stop it from reminding you as well.
Yes, there is a 1,000 mile checkup. As previously mentioned, it is covered by your new car warranty so it can't hurt to take your car in and just have it looked at.
Hello,
Is there an oil change at 1000 miles during the free service? I didn't think that oil was changed then. It is supposed to be somewhere around 7000 to 7500 miles for the first oil change.
I think they adjust things like wheel lugs, and general overall nuts bolts and screws.
Regardless of free or not, I have always changed the oil on my cars at the 1K mark or so. It's always good to get all the crap out of the system that's floating around due to the initial break-in.
When I bought it, the salesman set up an appointment at 30 days, irregardless of miles. A tech was sent to my house, however I forgot and was not home.
When I called to reschedule, the service guy said that they just check the oil and tire pressure. Nothing else.
I think I can handle those laborious tasks, so I said forget it. He said it is not required for warranty, and just a service they offer. First real checkup/oil change will be at 5K.
A service writer told me it was basically just to get the customer aquainted with the dealer service department. As far as what is done, he said they just look around and that's it (unless you have any questions/complaints of your own).
Thanks for the answers.
I too like to change my oil pretty regularly. In the old days I changed oil at 500 or 1000 miles on a new car, but with the manufacturing processes being what they are now, there really is no need to do that, but you can never go wrong doing it. It is good insurance, I guess.
Once I get 10,000 miles on a new car, I switch to synthetic anyway. By then the rings have seated and should not be burning oil.

That is probably my fault. As with my last few cars I was rushing between various appointments when I picked up the car. I really did not have time for him to spend a lot of time going over the switches and *****.
On the plus side I told them they had to $8,000 off the car or I was walking. They were able to almost do it. I pays to buy on the last day of a slow month!
The 1,000 mile service is basically a "check up" to make sure your car is breaking in properly. Also, there is a complimentary car wash. The first oil change is at 5,000 miles and at every interval thereafter. Both of these are covered by your local Lexus dealer.
since Longo Lexus is here....i just got a quick question. I brought my car for service and "marked" my wheels and see if they will rotate the wheels..it says on the paper work that it was rotated and brakes pad checked, but when i looked at the mark i put in the wheels... alas!! they are still on the same spot ( passenger side back wheels) and on the paper work says i got 8.5 mm left on my pads...i return it 2 days later to tell them about the rotation of the wheel and they rotated it 4 me, but this time, the paperwork says i got 7mm left on my brake pads...is this a case of lazy technician??
I checked with the service department and I was told that most likely there were 2 different techs on the job. It was probably just human error. It happens. 1.5mm isn't that big of a difference..now if was 3mm difference or something, then I'd be worried. I apologize about the tire rotation thing though!
