At the request of CL staff (the old gas thread was shut down for political reasons) I am starting a new thread in Car Chat specifically for gas prices.
Perhaps I'll open it (IMO, it's a good place to start) by re-posting what I thought was a very interesting and useful AAA site on average daily gas prices by state. it will show how your area compares to the rest of the country.
I suspect that is at least (partly) because of the large amount of traffic (and demand for gas) from people in California and other surrounding states driving out to Las Vegas for the casinos and other night-life.

well, it cheaper hear in Toronto at $5.05 US per gallon compared to Nevada
Again saw $5.74 for diesel, Premium is about $1 cheaper.
Yes...an interesting point. It's the same way in the D.C. area......ULSD (Ultra-Low-Sulfur Diesel fuel), the kind that is mostly sold nowadays seems to run upwards of from about $.080 to a dollar over Premium 93 Octane gas. Diesel fuel, of course, has to have enough resistance to detonation to withstand the very high 20:1 compression-ratios of the typical automotive or truck-diesel....roughly twice that of typical gas engines. In addition, it takes more effort (and expense) to refine out most of the sulfur today that used to be kept in the former diesel fuel that was sold in the past.

One thing that might (?) be helping with Toronto is that, because it sits on Lake Ontario, tanker-ships can get down the St. Lawrence Seaway into the Lake...or, at least, the tankers can can fit through the Seaway Locks. That, of course, minimizes the relatively short distance that tanker-trucks have to haul it to local stations.
No one is going to Vegas anymore so that can't be the reason.
The latest numbers that I saw suggest that Las Vegas tourism has only dropped about 7.5% in the past year. If you have different stats, by all means let's hear it.

what a shame! Apparently inflation is back up 3.8%’in America because of the rising cost of gas
To be honest, I'd consider the prices in the grocery stores to be even more of a PITA. You gas up maybe once a week or every other week, unless you really drive a lot...but you have to eat and/or deal with the never-ending grocery-spiral every day. Worse, grocery-prices never seems to go down much (unless something is on a temporary sale in the store for a few days), where the price of gas, historically, since the 1970s, rises and drops like a roller-coaster.

the grocery prices are high because of the gas prices.
