Default Months or miles?

Hey fellow IS owners,

I was just checking out the service & maintenance schedule for my IS on the Lexus website, but I'm slightly confused.

The first on the list says 30 days, and I'm wondering what that maintenance service is for.

Should I go to the 30 day service, get my personalized settings done as well as get my car checked up?

Next on the list is the 6 month or 5,000 mile service, which I won't reach anytime soon (I put very few miles on my cars each year, btw) .

Now, should I go to a local dealership every 6 months or every 5,000 miles?

When it comes to properly keeping my car in tip-top shape, money isn't really an issue.

Also, are both the 30 day service AND the 5,000 mile service free?

Thanks in advance to those who help me out .

I personally would do the first on 3,000 miles but that's up to you. The first service is FREE, thereafter you gotta pay : /

i didnt bother to go for the 30 days one....

and yes, the 5K oil change is free. in your case i would say change it @6 months......

The dealership charges too much for oil change. i think a 10-min lube will work as long as you keep the records for possible future warranty issues......

So if I go to the 30 day service, I will be charged for the 5,000 mile service, correct?

The 5,000 mile service looks like it's only an oil change, but is there a benefit to actually going to the dealerships for the oil changes ?

Also, my car is probably going to reach the 5,000 mileage mark next year, so will my engine oil go bad if I don't change it until then?

I know I'm asking a slew of questions here, but help a newbie out .

Both 30 day and 5K service should be FREE. they should not charge you for that. And you can bring to ANY dealer for that as well.

benefit for taking to the dealer for 5K service? never thought about that, but heck, it's FREE!

If you dont think you will drive more than 5K in the next 12 months, I would still stick with the maintenance manual (it says 5K or 6 months) for the oil change.........it will never hurt your engine if you have fresh(er) oil in the engine (except your wallet).....

some brands (e.g. honda) would recommend you not to change oil until u reach 5000 (7500?) miles as they have added addictives in the oil for break-in purposes. I dont think Lex has it? maybe someone else in here can shed us some light?

dont worry about asking too many questions here.....all of the people are very nice and we have a very good community here!

I am also a newbie in here too.....!

I'll be at 6 months on Apr 19th. At that time I estimate to have 4300km or somewhere near 2700 miles. I told that to the dealer when I purchased the car and they told me to just go by the time requirement as opposed to the mileage. I did bring my car in for the 30 day inspection. Not sure what, if anything they did.

My dealer keeps ****ing calling me about the 5k service. I just hit 4500. I wonder why they are so eager to give me a free service???
