Very interesting, I been thinking about this post all day cuz didn't see that coming.
Are you saying, after driving the EV the bar is higher now?

Just watched you turn down two very high end cars. lol

Plz feel free to elaborate, I'm big ICE fan but today I tried to imaging driving an EV and then go looking at a replacement car in ICE and what that would be like.
Honestly I though being a motor head like urself with fast ICE cars you'd be like, "dam, welcome home, love hearing that engine again...".

I'm sure it can go the other way around too with people buying EV's and then having regrets and switching back to ICE, like anyting else in life.

I'll make a comparo post later on these high end sedans, but if u want to understand how a gear head like me would still like an EV like a Model S Plaid, you have to understand my background a bit.

I'm a proud techie and gearhead....drove since I was 15 (albeit somewhat illegally lol), and my first car I bought myself was a manual (200sx se-r).

Ive owned over 30+ cars ranging from pedestrian corollas to evos to supras to ls430s to f150s to now my s plaid (rip). I've also owned (and race/tracked) many crotch rockets including f4is to rc51s to 1000rrs to now my rs660.

I started getting into ev's with the Nissan leaf so always had an inkling for alternative tech.

and most of all, I like modding and going fast, whether it's out at the track or at the dragstrip. Done it all! I've gotten my *** handed to many times by "inferior" cars at both venues (civics/integras lol), so can appreciate it all.

I started dabbling in Tesla's with a model 3 rwd, then eventually the y's, and now my s and love them for each different reasons.

If a guy loves his ICE, good for them, as I can probably relate in many ways, but unless you've really driven an ev like an s plaid, trying to paint them as some appliance is laughable at best.

Appreciate what you have and don't worry about other people's stuff has always been my motto. I've been blessed to be able to afford such cars and still relish all the memories in each of them (well except for my post first car: a salvaged 84' post Corolla ).

Let me just elaborate on ST430's post...it's like going from an iPhone 5 or 6 to an iPhone 14. Or from an Android perspective, from a Samsung Galaxy 3 to an S23. Me being a OnePlus buyer, it's like trading in my OnePlus 10T for a OnePlus 2. You get the picture

I'm not a motor head but somehow I have no interest in EVs. Must be due to the fact that I don't like to look for charger on the go. I'm sure there are people like him. I have a friend who had an S after an S. He even got same color. Lol So these things sure have reasons to keep people coming/coming back. But the majority I encounter buy EVs for different reasons. Common reason is not having to pay at the pump. I have a friend. We bought X5 together and one day his Model 3 came. He had placed the order during the craziness and now it would make him money to get it and sell. So he took the car. And that was the intention... to sell to make money. Fast forward a few months, he sold the X5. I asked him if the Tesla was a better vehicle. He said, "yes, I only drive local. I can charge at home and don't have to go to the gas station anymore."

Well, here's my story. 30 years of ICE ownership. I've driven everything from a crappy Ford Pinto to a Huracan I rented in 2017 in Dubai. From 1996 I bought my first Toyota, a 5 speed Corolla LE that ended up being passed down almost 20 years later all the way to my nephew. My last ICE vehicle was an IS350. In 2020 to save money on my wife's commute (she was using our 2013 Sienna), I test drove and then leased an Ioniq EV. I couldn't believe how good it drove, about the size of a Corolla, but drives 100 times better and more efficient at 120 mpg equivalent. The lease is only $190 a month, about $30 a month in electricity and no maint. A no brainer, so we just parked our Sienna and used it only for moving big stuff and the occasional trip.

Around 2021 my friend bought a Model 3 Performance. One day I was at his house and he asked me if I wanted to drive it. I was just amazed by it. Didn't care for the screen or lack of ***** and buttons, but was just amazed at how smooth it was, and mostly by its acceleration and it's quietness and lack of NVH at any speed. This actually peaked my interest in EV's. At that time there were not that many EV's that even came close to Tesla's, but later that summer I started to see reviews of the Polestar 2, so I requested a test drive, the next day they brought it to my work, and I instantly fell in love with it. In December 2021 I ordered it (the whole ordering process is done online) and it was delivered to my house Jan 2022. The whole process took 20 minutes, I signed the paperwork, wired the down payment and the Polestar rep took an Uber back.

As I've said I've driven a large sample of cars over my lifetime from Lexus, BMW's, Mercedes etc and will never buy another ICE vehicle again. Not because I don't like them, but because I like better the performance and efficiency EV's give me, something ICE can no longer do. The best way I can describe it is driving an IS350, then downgrading to a 4 cylinder Camry. Nope

How would you compare your experience going from Model Y to Model S?

We took the Y in for service the other day and had a 2015 Model S 85 loaner with 106,000 miles.

The interior wasn’t great compared to the models of today but that aside, I loved how it drove. It was much more luxurious feeling than the Y. The ride was so much smoother and quieter and it wasn’t even on air suspension. The steering was also way smoother and a lot easier to keep the car going straight, nowhere near as darty and eager to change direction. Much more of a cruise-mobile.

That said, I love how sharp the Model Y is in the cornering and handling department. I didn’t get to feel out the Model S in this area since it was 15 degrees out and there was ice and snow everywhere.

I imagine the 2023s only take this all up a few notches so I’m curious to see what it’s been like for you. We’re a little over the Y and are pretty close to pulling the trigger on an S.

Which Y do you have? I had both the MYLR and MYP, before i sold the LR to my sister.

The LR is our cruiser as we put 18s on it for a comfy ride. The MYP has fat 20" wheels and tires and while it's great, it's not as nimble as our prior Model 3 SR or M3P, which railed on turns.

I transitioned to from the MYP as my daily to the MSP and have no regrets! Love the handling, love the increased premium features (heated and cooling seats, Alcantara all about, etc)., the air suspension, and of course the power!

It seems you are unfamiliar with the Tesla supercharging network. At least here in Cali, there are a ton of them everywhere so to find them, it's as simple as plugging into ur integrated gps and choosing the closest ones.

Im a self professed speed junkie and could really care less about gas savings, saving the environment, or all that other traditional "EV thinking". Tesla's are much quicker than any of their ice counterparts, especially the Plaids.

If some random guy likes it for saving $$$ or whatever, more power to them. If he likes ice better, and could care less about evs, great for them.

We'd be going from a 22 Model Y LR to a 23 Model S LR. Did putting 18s on help? We have the 20" Induction wheels on ours and we feel everything in the road.

We have another car on order that'll be our long distance cruiser. The plan was for that to be our comfy traveling car and leave the MY for snow/dog/around town duty since our range has been awful, especially in the winter. MS will end up taking on that role if we go that way but with the benefit of having much more range (and air suspension). I'm hoping the hatchback/cargo space on the MS will be enough even though it's less than the MY as the other car we ordered is a sedan.

When I order my M3P, the first thing I'm going to do is swap the 20" for 19" wheels. The road noise and feel is horrible with 20"... IMHO

With the new "Comfy" suspension, the 20s are definitely liveable with and handle great at the same time. Took a trip in our m3p from SJ to LA going upwards of 105mph with no issues on 5, even in crappy LA roads.

The 18s helped a lot, even though we put m+s tires on it primarily for our trips up to the snow.

Imho u should be looking at the mxlr if ur planning more for hauling.

Thanks for that info. When I do get it, I'll try them out for a month. Since I travel frequently to SoCal and drive hwy 5, I want to be as comfy as possible!

I'm glad to hear that about the comfort suspension, I was wondering how it was. We took delivery a while before they updated that.

I know, my partner wants the Model X LR instead but I think I prefer the S for it's better looks, better aero, more range, and cheaper price. It feels like a good value at the new prices. I don't know if I feel like the MX is worth it/enough of a value for me especially because I don't really love the looks of it and I've never seen one that had window trim and door handles that line up well so I don't want to deal with that at all.

My other big issue with the MX is I would really heavily prefer the 6 seater which further drives up the price AND (the worst part) makes it so that the 2nd row can't fold down. At that point I feel like a MS might have more practicality and cargo room for us.

And I also just find this so sexy, we'd order it like this in black with the upgraded wheels:

Smart, I would do the same. The 20’s are so low profile that my friend keeps popping tires. We just got back from California and he arrived back to his car at the airport with another flat. The 20’s on my car are wider so the profile is a lot beefier.
