the current G80 does feel 'cheaper' inside than my G90 (not surprisingly), but other than that, it's really a GREAT car.
Just out of curiosity, what do you find cheaper about it? It's a little smaller inside than the G90, and probably doesn't have as much standard equipment. But all Genesis products seem to have superb material build-quality, excellent materials, and fit/finish inside and out.....though I'll reserve some judgement on the GV80, not having seen ors in it yet.
picking up one before it goes out isn't a bad move if one doesn't have to have the latest and greatest, because obviously all the kinks have been worked out and it's still very competitive on features and ability.
Also because more and more sedans seem to be on borrowed time nowadays. Get one while you can.....although, for the time being, Genesis does seem to have committed to a 2021 G80 (hence this thread)
Material quality in the G80 is notably lesser than in the G90,
Not IMO...they are both excellent. But it probably doesn't matter what either you or I think....Bitkahuna is the one that may shortly be in the market for a new Genesis, not us (and it will be his money), although I did seriously consider an AWD G80 before I ordered my Lacrosse.

No clue how you come to that conclusion. The G90 has a leather stitched dash and door panels, G80 has none. The G90 has real metal interior trim and buttons, G80 has none. G90 has an alcantara headliner, G80 does not. Its typical for the price difference, but of course there are material differences, same as with a Lexus GS and LS.
OK, I'll try and explain it. Yes, the G90 has more expensive materials inside, but that wasn't quite was I was refering to. Both vehicles are pleasant-looking, have a high-quality solidness inside, and excellent fit/finish. Considering what each one of them costs (and, yes, the G90 is more expensive), I think both of them give you your money's worth, and more. Personally, I prefer the general overall interior design/layout of the (present) G80 over the G90 even more...although not quite as plush inside as the G90, I think it has better-looking styling-theme inside. But, like most styling-evaluations, that is purely subjective on my part....others may disagree.
............and, like I said, it's going to be Bitkahuna's money, not ours.
Absolutely stunning, even for a lower trim model. Genesis NEEDS to be more competitive with their lease rates, though, to get buyers into this, the GV80 and the G90. I have wanted to give Genesis a shot and lease before buying one outright, but their lease terms, at least pre-pandemic, we're laughable. When you can lease a comparable Mercedes, BMW or Lexus for less than a Genesis, there's a big issue.
I almost purchased the Hyundai Genesis [nee G80] back in 2015; it is a huge, but beautifully styled car.
Back in 2018, I visit it again as Genesis G80, but in the showroom, the brand new right rear window sunshade could not hook onto the front of the two hooks, because the upper edge of the plastic was severely warped.
I am surprized this defect escaped both the manufacturer and the dealer.
Since then, I have not regarded Genesis G80 to be on par with Lexus GS quality of manufacture nor quality of assembly.
My only complaint with the outgoing G80 is the insane weight. Such a beautiful car, though. My neighbor bought one and offered me a test drive of it when COVID passes. I’ll give it a good comparison to my GS.

Weight, though, has numerous benefits. All else equal (and, of course numerous other factors are also involved) it contributes to a smooth ride, stability in handling/tracking, crash-protection, and build solidness/quality. With the exception of the 90s-vintage plastic-bodied Saturn S-series, I am not a fan of lightweight construction.
what tech are taking about ..apple car play? The Gs was last updated in 2013 it’s not really comparable.
no one here on the forum buys a lexus for TEch. We buy for many other things that you already know.
Kia is doing a good job of updating their cars, but as I said originally they show their age pretty quickly too.

It's funny seeing people dislike improvements and updates while praising complacency and fear of competition. Yes, let's all follow Acura and Infiniti's example and sink into nothingness.

Yes, the styling was beautiful.
The current G80 is big and spacious.
It also had a magnificent ride thanks to both its size and weight.
However, the huge size, performance, braking, fuel efficiency, maneuverability and dynamics got the better of me.

False, it got a facelift in 2016. And I mean how the vehicle actually runs. The GS came with a 6-Speed for its AWD versions. That is laughable for any car made after the 2010s. And yes, not being able to add Apple CarplayAndroid Auto in any of its model years (up to 2020) demonstrates just how outdated the whole vehicle was. Not to mention the lack of a 360 camera, proper lane centering system, and other autonomous safety tech. And since the car had a refresh in 2016, there's really no excuse for any of these omissions. The G80 wasn't a much newer vehicle (came out in 2014 as the Hyundai Genesis) and yet by the end of its run it had all these omissions and more. The GS remained a dinosaur.

Like what? Cause it sure didn't translate into sales, otherwise the GS wouldn't have been cancelled. The complacency of Lexus in updating the vehicle properly resulted in its death.

That you keep calling Genesis "a Kia" demonstrates your bias. How does it show its age then? Please, give me an actual argument instead of this fanboy tripe.

Its not like the GS, its more like a mini LS. The G80 is much heavier and far less sporty than the GS. Feels more like the LS on the road than the GS.

Just call his Lexus a Scion lol
The whole "its a Hyundai" thing from Lexus fans is really absurd. Calling it a Kia also displays a total lack of understanding of the organizational relationship (hence why I said call his Lexus a Scion). Hyundai is the parent company, they control Kia and Genesis. Kia doesn't have anything to do with Genesis.
