The grille is nice. But the lower valence is not great. And why is this all new engine short of 400hp? Even the Continental and MKZ hit 400. Alex On Autos did a review, too much yapping about value....they need to shed their Hyundai-value image and he needs to stop yapping about value. . MB, Audi and BMW will not switch to this car. The SUV GV80...they might.

Redline comments review at 6:21 were not good.

A very good effort. And it does have its own identity.

right on cue, you bring up hp figures. i suspect this 3.5TT is PLENTY quick, and probably under rated.

Hot off the press, a review from Doug. Cool feature at 13:47 called "Smart Posture Care" - enter height, weight, inseam and it recommends seating position best for your posture to make it most comfortable on your back. Very interesting.

I also like around 16 minutes where they allow the back seat passenger to adjust the front passenger seat forwards from buttons on the side like the LS has. That's a subtle but very nice feature.

The way the sunroof cover opens in a "split" fashion is pretty cool.

Doug seems blown away by the quality of the interior - I agree- I think Genesis has hit it out of the park on the interior. I don't like the exterior color of the one he drove - I'm excited to see these in-person in other color options.

Same here, and a little bit bigger and softer than the GS which is what the 4GS should have been also.

FYI, this G80 is exactly the same length as an LS400.. 196 inches.

Hey if anything, a worthy successor the already-pretty-great G80 that was on sale before. Though I do bemoan the loss of the 5.0-liter V8.

Idk, I need to actually get behind the wheel of a GS. I've heard good things generally.

Yeah but I thought we already went through the fact that the Continental won't win any acceleration tests between even the big Genesis G90 despite its lower weight and higher power figures.

I expect the the G80 3.5TT to run in the mid-high 4 second range. Also I think it's worth noting that the G80 with 2.5T is only .4 sec off the pace of the Continental 3.0TT despite much lower power levels according to C&D.

Haven’t seen the 0-60. Alex on Autos says the 2.5t rwd was 6..4s. So we shall see the numbers. I don’t Genesis will be able to outperform BMW or Mercedes

I'm going by C&Ds numbers. They got 5.7 sec for the G80 2.5T, 5.3 sec for the GV80 3.5TT and 5.3 sec for the Continental 3.0TT.

The older G80 Sport 3.3TT RWD ran a 4.9 sec 0-60 and this new one is more powerful and lighter.

The GS is very different from the LS. I love my LS, and its more my sort of car but I was very surprised by how much I really loved that GS. It had a great duality about it, it could be comfortable cruiser in Normal and a very rewarding car to drive on a fun twisty road In Sport S+. Something the LS never is, its always a cruiser.

If the GS were larger in the back, I may never have upgraded to the LS.

Thats actually one thing I like a lot about the BMW 750i I'm considering, is it has that duality about it. Its as comfortable as the LS when you want it to be, and nearly as engaging as the GS (at least moreso than the LS) when you want it to be.

Motor Trend review:

2021 Genesis G80 Pros and Cons Review: Awesome Yet Disappointing

Despite a stunning interior and great features, this midsize luxury sedan comes up short dynamically.

Pro

  • Great back seat
  • Luxe features without the price
  • Cool interior details

Con

  • Engine refinement issues
  • Subpar ride/handling
  • Quicker/more efficient competition
We really wanted to love the 2021 Genesis G80, but the midsize luxury sedan segment requires a delicate touch the redesigned model just doesn't deliver. Genesis has nailed certain aspects while leaving us cold in others.

The most basic compliment we can pay the G80 is thanking Genesis for continuing to offer a sedan in this price range. While Genesis was putting final touches on the 2021 G80, the Acura RLX, Lexus GS, and Lincoln Continental were discontinued, leaving the luxury sedan world three cars the poorer.

You don't get a prize just for showing up, though. Genesis attempts to earn its place among more established midsize luxury sedans with a bolder swagger outside and rich detailing inside. As with the GV80 SUV, the G80 gives off a high-tech, high-luxury first impression. From beveled-edge silver trim to the gearshift disc and the generously apportioned wood trim, there's no mistaking the G80 for anything but a luxury car.

The rear seat impresses, too, and not just for the way the outboard seats cradle passengers.

"The back seat is capacious, with a padded, fold-up armrest that also has room for your stuff, seat heater controls, and cupholders," editor-in-chief Mark Rechtin said. "Plus, there's a pass-through for long, skinny items. Truly magnificent, smart rear-seat design."

We also appreciate the G80 2.5T's rise in fuel economy compared to the last-gen's standard 3.8-liter V-6. Look to the 2021 G80's 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, and you'll find an engine that propels the luxury sedan to 60 mph in a respectable 5.2 seconds. Luxury sedans don't really need to accelerate more swiftly, but it's worth noting the equivalent Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class are quicker and more efficient.

With a better ride and more refined engines, we might be writing a different story. Judges took issue with both the 300-hp turbo-four and the 375-hp twin-turbo V-6, finding they lacked the smoothness and refinement of others in the class. What really kept the G80 from moving forward was the car's subpar body control and suspension roughness.

"Driving it back to back with the E-Class, the G80's Comfort mode feels like the Sport mode in the E-Class," MotorTrend en Español managing editor Miguel Cortina said. "The ride is less settled and stiffer." Yet the firmer suspension doesn't result in handling on par with its German rivals.

"It feels as if it's up on its tiptoes," senior features editor Jonny Lieberman said. "Even going in a straight line at about 40-45 mph, you can feel the G80 dipping on its springs. If you're going to enter the E-Class/5 Series segment, at bare minimum you've got to have the same levels of chassis sophistication. This vehicle simply doesn't."

If it sounds like we're being a little hard on the G80, we are. Because just look at what the luxury brand has already accomplished. Numerous Car and now SUV of the Year finalists, one winner, and a comparison test-winning executive sedan back in 2017.

So please iterate on this, Genesis. Oh, and while we have your attention, consider raising the nearly flat infotainment rotary controller. Additionally accessible via touchscreen, the system operates on a standard 14.5-inch display.

"The infotainment screen is sharp and clear," associate road test editor Erick Ayapana said. "I somewhat got the hang of the rotary control ****, which feels high quality, but still prefer BMW's iDrive."

The G80 will prove alluring to the luxury customer who wonders why some midsize luxury sedans don't feel midsize from the back seat. They might be impressed by the car's interior, too, or the features-per-dollar value. Just like the GV80, the G80 is recommendable to the right buyer. With better ride quality and body control, it might one day cause the top players in the segment to sweat a little more.

I have said time and time again. Hyundai’s engines are not on par with the Japanese and nowhere near the Germans....and those buying a BMW or MB will not buy a Genesis G80....Lexus was smart to cancel the GS as this is a nice vehicle that will be slow selling...GV80 is a different story.
