they dont sell many Sonata's either... it is mostly small cars and sold at some crazy good pricing, around here they are by far the cheapest cars to buy in C segment (i30 - Auris/Golf competitor). $4.5k cheaper than cheapest Auris.

FYI Honda tried that trick with the euro accord and the current version wasn't well received and sold so poorly its going to be discontinued (tsx). Europeans like everyone else prefer their badges.

Good luck to them. The Genesis will have to be better than the luxury badged cars, not just cheaper if it wants to make any serious inroads.

There's a good possibility that it just might be better than its german competitors. Then again, it certainly wouldn't be cheaper. I've seen Hyundai's prices creap up and they are generally not the bargain they once were. The Sonata, for example is priced right along next to all its competitors. IMO, it is no longer the value it once was.

It's not as great a value because it doesn't have to be. Hyundai is rapidly gaining ground in the consumer perception race vs Toyota, Honda, etc. when the day comes they get in equal footing, they'll command equal pricing.

Euro Accord was priced similar to Avensis, it wasnt a luxury car in Europe, it was pretty normal D segment car priced slightly above competition.

Problem is that the D segment is selling less and less in Europe as BMW/Aud/MB are going downmarket and fighting for the same customer with very similar pricing.

Thanks for the EUro insight:thumb up: I saw the Euro Accord get whooped in reviews agains the 3 series, C-class etc and also against the Avensis, Mondeo etc so Europe just didn't seem to like it much.

Also reliability/quality aspect is still below the Japanese, so they haven't fully nailed that down, most definitely not.
you, nor anyone else, knows what the reliability/quality of a model not even released will be.

Never underestimate the arrogance of Korean companies.
is it really necessary to bad mouth an entire nation?

Default Hyundai Genesis to get anti-drowsiness CO2 sensor plus hand-and-foot-free Smart Trunk

Hyundai Genesis to get anti-drowsiness CO2 sensor plus hand-and-foot-free Smart Trunk

We're still recovering from the jetlag incurred on a trip to South Korea last week, where a cordial group at Hyundai showed us, among other things, the nearly completed 2015 Hyundai Genesis. There is still a bit of time stretching between now and when we're allowed to bring you our First Drive of the second-generation Genesis prototype, but we have been cleared to break off news of two heretofore unheard of features that will debut on the premium sedan.

The first, and arguably most interesting of the two, is a carbon dioxide sensor inside the cabin of the Genesis. The goal of the sensor is to measure CO2 outputted by the cars' human occupants (not the CO2 coming out of the tailpipe, which shouldn't make it into the cabin), as Hyundai tells us that high levels of the stuff help to increase occurrences of drowsiness while driving.

Conceived of by a Hyundai engineer who struggled with staying alert during his long commute home from Namyang, the system detects when in-cabin CO2 levels rise above 2,500 parts per million, then vents the compartment via the HVAC system when that threshold is reached. The CO2 venting system may be turned off, should a driver not want the cabin filled with fresh air – we're guessing this might be a good thing on really cold days.

Hyundai will also be offering a hands-free Smart Trunk in the 2015 Genesis. Unlike similar systems that require some kind of motion from the key-holder to be activated *– Ford's foot-activated, hands-free liftgate was referenced by Hyundai *– the Genesis will require that the user only have the key fob in their pocket, and stand next to the truck for three seconds. In a demonstration we saw the system work perfectly; our tester approached the trunk with key in pocket, the Genesis beeped three times to indicate he had been recognized and then popped open. Surely grocery store runs will never be so languorous ever again.

Lol. So the "interesting CO2 sensor" is nothing more than an auto fresh-air system. How is this any different than most of the auto climate control systems on the market today?

Many of today's auto climate systems already have sensors that detect when fresh air is needed or not.

the difference i think is lexus auto recirc is sensing OUTSIDE pollution and preventing it from coming in (i always thought this an awesome feature), and this feature is sensing c02 levels in the cabin emanating in the direction of the driver, which is perhaps a sign they're falling asleep.

odd front hood gap - no likey (bit like the ES), but other than that, from that shot and the others at the link - looks very refined and classy.

I like it. Looks like the GS in the rear, the A7 and the 5 down the side...

looks great! (besides that hood gap). I'm seeing 7 series mixed with A7. Long hood - would be nice if there was a turbo I6 in there.

wow looks nice lovin the long front fender hood profile.

I'd take this over the lexus GS and ES all day and any day.

they would have sold more of these if hyundai actually had marketed a "Genesis" luxury brand.
