I still see a lot of them around, they are all pretty beat up. My neighbor across the street's mother has a refresh model, so an 05 or 06 that is in really good shape.
You just have to do what I've done most of the time - go buy whatever you think makes sense, bring it home, and tell her "honey, I bought you a new car... hope you like it" . So far, 100% success rate (that includes 4-5 cars) .
I tried this technique and it didn't go as well lol. Years ago, I traded our Pontiac Vibe in on a new Mazda 3 without consulting my wife. She LOVED the Mazda but was still pissed that I didn't talk to her first. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if the Mazda hadn't worked out.

There a lot of truth to the old saying of........"Happy Wife, Happy Life".
there is no chance I could do this because (1) every time I'm shopping for car for my wife, there's some feature or option or something that she doesn't like that wouldn't ever have occurred to me would be an issue (like the shape of the headrest...); and (2) we tend to keep cars a while, and for 6, 7, 8 or more years, it would be MY fault that she has to deal with whatever it is that she doesn't like.
This is so true. Lol
Can't see well out windows.
Doesn't like the color.
Doesn't like the style.
Can't figure out the radio.
Etc, etc 😂

I've also found, after shopping over the years with many people, that the design of the seats is something that a lot of people (mostly women, but sometimes also men) are also very sensitive to. I remember shopping with a friend (don't remember exactly what year) who really liked the Corolla of that generation, and was almost sold....except she complained that, with a history of back-issues, she just couldn't get comfortable in the driver's seat. The Toyota sales rep did everything he could to try and get her a good deal, but she persisted.....just couldn't hack those front seats. We went down the street to the Honda dealership, and she bought a new Civic that very afternoon.
The 26 way massage seats in my D4s have absolutely ruined me.
They are able to be adjusted to perfection and the massage is quite strong, everything else I have tried just isn't as good of a seat. That said I'm perfectly okay with mainstream seating, like in my Jetta I just got done driving.
Not a deal breaker for me unless it's a literal 1940s Jeep

Yeah, it would be a bad idea lol
We went out to dinner with our neighbor who has the Ioniq 5 last night, her lease is up the same time the Pacifica lease is up and she is also shopping. In that conversation it was pretty clear my wife is going to want something that plugs in...
LOL, I wouldn't get the 580 for my wife, I would get it for me!
very confused. you've mentioned getting the gls a lot as a replacement for the pacifica so figured it's primarily for your wife and not you. plus you still have an s-class.
I would definately get something mainstream to replace the Pacifica, doesn't have to be a luxury car. I'd like to get her something luxury branded though for work.

I would consider something like a GLS for me as an S Class replacement also, but this time around is shopping for my wife. For the family car I would get the 450, if I was going to get a replacement for my S Class I would get the 580.
One option is to get something smaller for her and for me to get an SUV we could use for trips etc. So, we could buy the Pacifica and keep it until the lease is up on the S Class, replace the S Class with something like a GLS580 and then get her something smaller and fully EV to replace the Pacifica. Does that make sense?
There are lots of scenarios we are considering.
clear as mud.
mainstream, but luxury.
I mean we are open to both mainstream and luxury branded vehicles. I would like to get her something with some cachet for work, but thats not a requirement. If the right vehicle is a Toyota or a Mercedes, both are options. Does that make sense?
There were a lot of pages to read through here. But if I am correct, you said you are about 6 months away from buying correct? If so I would think with the low vehicle sales currently, that in 6 months the Lease rates would have changed quite a bit along with rebates and discounts considering the value stand point.
I would really look at the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. I think they are the under the Radar best ones on the list. I may be a little biased based on the fact of owning a few of their cars and being very satisfied with them in spite of all the ignorance and hate for them still. Have you see and driven one yet? Coming back to a Lexus would also be high on my list.
Haven’t driven an EV9 or Ioniq 9 yet but we will. The EV9 is a little light on range but the Ioniq 9 is there.
Lease rates tweak here or there but they don’t change a ton. I always trade out of my leased cars so I could actually do it now if the right vehicle and opportunity presented itself.

He, has a house, well off, lives in a city on the east coast with no real distance needed, leases doesn't buy, doesn't use the power of his car to the fullest, doesn't drive hard, likes tech/glam more than hard engineering, isn't a mechanical tech nerd and does utilize connected features.

It's literally the perfect fit
Great post, nailed it.
Dropping the bullet points, oh yeah.
