General Car Conversation 2025 - Part 1
I modded my '97 Maxima, I had a Stillen intake and Stillen Catback exhaust.
It actually sounded really, really good.
I'm seriously debating adding Borla exhaust to the GMC, or just getting one of the resonators chopped off. It already has a great exhaust but I want it just a little louder, nothing uncouth though.

If you remove the resonator, you are going to get droning at highway speeds. I put a performance CAT-Back on one of my cars, and it was cool at first, but the droning became totally annoying, and everybody would comment how loud it was. My wife hated riding in it, and I ended up spending a bunch of time and money installing several aftermarket resonators because I had disposed of the original exhaust. But hey, if you like drone at 70 mph, than go for it
Many things in life are a pro/con where there is a cost, litany nothing you do or partake in is purely safe or without some sort of physical toll. Modern tech has drawbacks but by your logic we should all revert to horses as that's perfectly "clean". New cars all have VOC out gassing you breathe constantly and are FILLED with fake materials that leach that trash for years, yet people perfer the trade off of having a new or cheaper car vs something with nothing but leather and wood.
I've done a lot of heavy modifications, I've only had one car with an intentionally loud exhaust though and it fits the "theme" of that vehicle. Everything else is stockish sounding or has active exhausts so it can be selected

Much more effective to go after areas you can see 40-80% reductions with ease that are quantitatively 20x more than the entire global vehicle fleet. However that only applies if the actual goal is emissions reduction and not just relocating it to other nations and as always it would be at the expense of convenience and cost. No one actually wants that so we have what we do lol!
I don't personally care nor will I pretend to, and I'm fairly sure the average person given the choice between spending 10k more and polluting 5% less will keep the 10k
Which we are doing...i think Striker was just responding to the dripping condescension Bit usually shows towards ICE like people who enjoy it are Neanderthals'. I's a very weird take on a car enthusiast forum.
No it's not, it's a simple point to the fact there are always trade offs and if your goal is limiting pollution there are far more quantitatively effective ways to do it than going after passenger cars to extract that last .02%

If they hadn't focused on vehicle emissions as much as they have over the last 40 years cars wouldn't be as efficient as they are today. Just because something doesn't entirely solve the issue doesn't mean its not worth doing.
You're totally right that the average person would pollute more and spend less. That's why regulatory bodies have to make that decision for them.

That's just the cheap way, if I go Borla it'll be a couple grand. The thing is the stock quads look so good it'll be a shame to ax them.
