General Car Conversation 2025 - Part 1
My truck was catless for a while and as much as I loved the smell of E85 or 98 octane I caved in an installed race cats on the 3rd engine refresh/change. Ironically it's still cleaner than new since the requirements back the core trucks were a joke and the tiny single cat was half way down the body! New ones are right after the long tubes and has one per side, I also kept the EVAP system working as that allows fuel to sit very long without problems or pressure building up.
I miss the smell but I know I probably shouldn't have that stuff fill the garage on start.....ruined some of the sound too. Not as much header tick makes it out now nor idle chop
My cleanest car in terms of emissions is the D4 W12, aside from raw C02 it's crazy how little it emits. The turbo engine is worse due to oil burn and the LS460 starts ungodly rich due to no SAI

With the engine off is it burning gas?🧐
On the mild hybrid does it still blow cold AC when stopped and engine off? It’s on the X7 but I have yet to experience enough to notice.
Yes mild hybrids will run the AC same as if the engine was running.

On a 670RWHP 6.8L V8 it was 7, barely noteworthy. Twin 3 inch exhausts with a x pipe at 70% length, I used 4.5 inch dia cats with one per leg right after the long tubes. The gotcha is you CAN melt them if you over fuel
The 100 cell race cats are essentially "invisible" for the most part but they remove near all unpleasantness at idle etc. You get a hint of fuel on a cold start but that's all, under max power I imagine it's worse but you are moving so it doesn't matter. It will never be like your stock setup though, so don't expect that unless you have an old *** car like mine that didn't really have anything going on.

I am down to just two cats in my V8. We removed the third cat because of rust and a cracks. Luckily no emissions testing here which was a total scam. (I don’t feel bad)

I don’t particularly care for the raspiness that sometimes you hear from catless. I’m personally not interested in a loud car. Power? Yes. Loud? No thanks. I like the Jekyll and Hyde with the push of a button
The recommended catted DPs are 400 cell and some go with a 200 cell. I don’t have to worry about emissions so catless isn’t an issue. Just more so the smell and rasp. I see a lot of people go catted to catless. Rarely see go catless to catted. I’m torn between the two

The car I track still has a stock exhaust (w/catted DP). I may be missing out on some hp but I’m ok with the sound and performance of stock exhaust.
Do you have a CEL?

I'm going to just give you my opinion, don't do it. I have a friend who went with a catless performance DP on his Supra, and it's loud. And yes, very raspy. Not my cup of tea. Good news is, you can revert back

D4 TTV8 is on stock ECU and is set to also ignore emissions codes as a reason to throw the light, so is the D4 W12. The 4.0 is very on the edge with 200 cell downpipes of logging or not, 90% of the time it's on the "correct" side of things and won't log, W12 is on stock cats (all 6 of them) for now.
